The tricky thing with emotional abuse like anything quiet and unobtrusive is that it can be overlooked easily, blending into the background of life. Luckily, however, it can lead traces of something “not being quite right” in your relationships – something wrong that you just can’t quite put your finger on.
Believe It Or Not, Verbal Abuse Is A Planned Event
A scumbag may fool your heart, but he can’t fool your ability to trust your gut.
We are masters of the back-handed compliment, the flattery which is actually a form of provocation, the kings of seemingly pleasant comments which are really put downs. We appear with that radiant and broad smile as we then slip a stiletto knife between your ribs with deft ease. Nobody else sees us do this. It appears to everyone else, as we stand there with our false smile plastered across our faces, that we are giving you a loving hug.
Emotions can be taken for granted, twisted and preyed upon by others. That’s right, just like physical and sexual abuse, emotional abuse is just as damaging, maybe even more so.
Verbal, emotional and mental abuse eats you alive from the inside out. The signs of verbal abuse are often felt instead of seen.
