Karl Landsteiner was the first one to classify the human blood into 4 well-known types in the first decade of the 1900s by Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian physician. There are four different blood types: A, B, O, and AB. Each of the types differs from others based on the antigens present on the surface of red blood cells and A and B antibodies in the plasma. These antigens explain the effectiveness of your immune system.

Type O blood is unique because it has neither A nor B antigens in the red blood cells but has both A and B antibodies in the plasma. Type O+ is the most common blood type  and is found in 37% — 53% of people in different ethnic and racial groups. Do you know around 43% of Americans are type O?

It’s important to know one’s blood type for emergency situations, like donating your blood to save a person’s life. However, blood characteristics are also interesting determinants of your health, fortune, and personality as well.

In 1930, Japanese professor Tokeji Furukawa identified from his study that each blood type reflects the personality of a person who possessed it. This led to the popularity of the term “Ketsueki-gata”, which refers to personality analysis based on the blood type of a person.

This post focuses on the Blood type O, which is the primal type of our ancestors who were cunning, aggressive predators. Some popular people with this blood typ are Gerald Ford, Mikhail Gorbachev, John Gotti, Crystal Kay, Queen Elizabeth II, John Lennon, Paul Newman, Elvis Presley, and Ronald Reagan.

If you are O+ blood you can donate your blood to all 4 groups, but only to people with the RH positive subgroup (O+, A+, B+, AB+). O- type is a universal blood type that is always needed for emergency blood transfusions. Type O- blood is useful in saving the life of a patient before the crossmatch test is completed. Even when O- blood is in short supply, it can be substituted with O+ blood.

Also, O- blood is considered to be the safest for newborn babies whose immune systems are weak. But, O+ blood type people can receive blood from people with both O+ and O- types. On the other hand, O- blood type people can only receive the same O- type blood.
