The 54-year-old actor found himself in the grip of controversy as court records revealed his startling arrest on Wednesday, linking him targeting the United States Capitol.

The charges against him include civil disorder, a felony. After his initial court appearance in California, a federal magistrate judge granted Johnston a $25,000 bond, allowing him to be released. A public defender representing him at the hearing chose not to provide any comment.

An FBI agent’s affidavit states that video footage captured Johnston pushing against police officers and assisting rioters who were attacking officers in a tunnel on the Lower West Terrace of the Capitol.

During the attack on January 6, 2021, Johnston held a stolen police shield over his head and passed it to other rioters. The affidavit also reveals that Johnston was near the entrance to the tunnel, turned back, and signaled for other rioters to join him.

In a surprising twist, the FBI stumbled upon Johnston’s covert plans: a round-trip flight from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., scheduled for January 4, 2021.

However, what caught their attention was the return date—the day after the riot. This curious revelation unfolded as investigators delved into the United Airlines records, unraveling a web of intrigue and potential connections.

On January 6, thousands of individuals stormed the Capitol after attending then-President Donald Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally.

As the mob attacked police officers in the tunnel using pepper spray and other weapons, Johnston reportedly assisted other rioters by pouring water on their faces and actively participated in pushing against the line of officers.

The FBI’s affidavit describes how the rioters coordinated their pushes by yelling “Heave! Ho!”

Based on the compelling evidence discovered by the FBI, three individuals closely connected to Johnston, including both current and former associates, have unequivocally identified him as a prime suspect in the riot.

The breakthrough came when one of these associates bravely shared a captivating text message exchange with investigators, wherein Johnston himself confessed to being present at the historic events that unfolded on January 6 Capitol riots.

Johnston’s message, as cited by the FBI, downplayed the events, stating, “The news has presented it as an attack. It actually wasn’t. Thought it kind of turned into that. It was a mess. Got maced and tear-gassed, and I found it quite untastic.”

The Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, resulted in over 1,000 individuals being charged with federal crimes. An Associated Press review of court records indicates that more than 500 of them have been sentenced, with a majority receiving prison terms ranging from seven days to 18 years.
