Sweet Relief: The Surprising ‘Crisis Candies’ Tackling Panic Attacks

,

 /

Sufferers of panic attacks have discovered a delectable remedy for their anxiety: “crisis candies.” These sweet, yet intensely sour treats have become a viral sensation on platforms like TikTok, where individuals share their remarkable experiences in taming panic attacks with this unconventional method.

One Of The Panic Attack Remedies Are Crisis Candies

The intense onslaught of a panic attack, characterized by shortness of breath, racing heart, dizziness, and trembling, often leaves victims feeling helpless for up to an hour. However, a mental health content creator known as @Taylor.Talking shared her “crisis candy” hack on TikTok.

Her therapist recommended reaching for one of these potent candies at the first sign of a panic attack. In her testimonial video, which garnered over 1.4 million views, she exclaimed, “I’ve never had anything rip me out of the throes of a panic attack faster!”

Online audiences quickly embraced the idea of using sour candies to fend off panic attacks, with one supporter exclaiming, “ITS THE POWER OF SOUR!!!!!!” Another commenter playfully referred to them as “crisis candies.”

While various sour candies may work, the consensus is that Warheads, known for their extreme sourness, are particularly effective. As one fan noted, “It makes your brain focus on the intense sour instead.”

The magic lies in the shift of attention brought about by the intensely sour taste. Dr. Toya Roberson-Moore, the medical director and psychiatrist at Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center, explained that when panic strikes, the amygdala triggers the fight or flight response.

To counter this, redirecting attention to the senses, including taste, can help mitigate panic. Sour candy, with its intense flavor, quickly diverts attention from the panic-inducing thoughts, allowing access to the rational part of the brain.

However, not all sour candies are created equal. Some, like the Black Death Mega Sours, have been dubbed the world’s sourest candies.

A UK-based taster described the sensation as akin to having a “metal rod” jammed into her throat. She stated that the sourness was so extreme that her brain needed time to process the overwhelming sensation. While the idea of such intense sourness might be appealing to some, it’s not for the faint of heart.

Potential enthusiasts should also be aware of manufacturer warnings. Excessive consumption of these candies within a short time frame may lead to temporary mouth and stomach irritation. These mouth-watering treats are not suitable for children under 8 years of age.

In conclusion, “crisis candies” have emerged as an unconventional yet effective way to combat panic attacks by redirecting focus through intense sourness.

While the world’s sourest candies may not be for everyone, many find solace in the soothing power of these intense treats. So, next time anxiety strikes, consider reaching for a sour candy to sweeten your mood and alleviate panic.

The notion that cat ownership might influence the risk of schizophrenia-related disorders dates back to a 1995 study, which suggested a correlation between exposure to the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, commonly found in cats, and the development of these disorders. However, subsequent research has yielded mixed results, with some studies supporting this hypothesis while others do not.
