She had innocently reached out to her male friend only to be dismissed with an insensitive text like that. He drops the bomb that they can no longer be friends, citing his girlfriend’s wishes as the reason, and to top it off, he blocks her on all social media platforms.

This is what her male best friend sent to her:

“Hey just can’t talk to you anymore. I just wanna fully respect what my girl wants because I broke her trust by talking to you behind her back when I told her I wasn’t going to talk to you even though nothing was going on. I don’t want her feeling any other type of way or her trust because I truly care about her.

You may not take any of this serious but me and my girl are at the next level of our relationship of seriousness. I care about her and I love her. I’m sure you would do the same thing if your partner told you not to talk to his person or that. I hope things goes well with husband and (blank).”

Naturally, she was left dumbfounded, wondering what on earth just happened. But here’s the kicker: she and this guy have been friends for years, with no romantic history whatsoever. So, where did this sudden change of heart come from?

She suspects that he might not have had a say in the matter. She believes his girlfriend is pulling the strings, puppeteering his words and actions.

As she vents her frustration on Reddit, she’s pondering the future of their friendship. Sure, he might come running back once his current relationship crashes and burns, as these things often do.

But here’s the million-dollar question: is that the kind of friend she wants? Can she trust someone who tosses their bond aside so easily?

What Does This Say About Her Friend And Their Friendship?

Let’s tackle the big question: should romantic relationships always take precedence over friendships? It’s a tricky one. Sure, committed relationships require effort and compromise, but that doesn’t mean throwing friendships out the window. Balance is key.

Trust isn’t built on isolating your partner from their long-standing friendships. That’s a major red flag for controlling behavior. In healthy relationships, open communication and understanding are the foundations of trust, not dictating who your partner can or cannot talk to.

Having close friends in your life is as important as having a stable and healthy romantic relationship. Your partner or spouse should never stop you from hanging out with your friends once in a while, even if they belong to the opposite sex.

The Reddit post reveals a story of a friendship shattered by the insecurities and dominance of a new romantic relationship. Blocking on social media is not the way to go.
