5 Things An Introvert Absolutely Needs To Be Happy

What makes someone happy? A good meal, talk, an evening out, or a movie with friends. Well, there are some things that are known to be happiness triggers for all. But is that true for all? What keeps an introvert happy?

Here’s what makes them different and special at the same time.

The terms “Introversion” and “Extraversion” were popularized by the famous Swiss Psychiatrist and Psychoanalyst Carl Jung.

The Introversion – Extraversion dimension is also a major part of Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality test.

According to personality theories everyone has some traits of both Introversion and Extraversion but people tend to lean towards one or the other end of the spectrum.

Whereas extroverts gain energy from social interactions, introverts are more quiet and reserved and recharge their batteries in quiet and alone time.

Wondering, if you are an Introvert?

Check out the list of the most common Introvert personality traits:

1) Thoughtful and contemplative
2) Detail oriented
3) Interested in self-knowledge and high on self-awareness
4) Learns through observation
5) Quiet in large and unfamiliar groups
6) More sociable and open around people they know well

Since Introverts and extroverts have different personality traits, things that make them happy are also very different.

While extroverts enjoy socializing and meeting people in large groups, introverts can find huge amount of socializing very draining. They like to spend time with people they can have meaningful and fulfilling conversations with and then retreat into their quiet space to recharge their batteries.

Here are 5 Things that an introvert absolutely needs to be happy and content in life.

1) Understanding and Empathetic friends

Introverts can tend to be very moody. Sometimes when we are invited to an event, we might say yes but when the time actually comes to go the event, we might just not feel like going.
It is not personal, it is just that we do not like a lot of time socializing and want to take some time off to recharge our batteries. Sometimes an event can clash with our downtime and we may have to say no at the last moment.

If we have understanding and empathetic friends, they will understand and will not take our “No” personally and hold a grudge against us.

2) A quiet space of their own

Introverts crave for a quiet space where they can be alone with themselves. They like to reflect and introspect or simply sit in silence. Any quiet space which lets them be themselves is heaven for Introverts.

If you are an introvert, find a calm and quiet space that can be your go to place to unwind and recharge your batteries.

I personally go for walks in nature or just go and sit in the nearby parks or do star gazing. Spending time in nature helps me unwind and recharge my batteries. Nature is my go to quiet and calm place.

3) Meaningful and fulfilling conversations

Introverts hate small talks and shallow conversations. They don’t want to know how the weather is or what’s up.

They like to have meaningful and fulfilling conversations. They want to genuinely connect with people and expand their knowledge. They like talking to people who are passionate and who radiate happiness and have a sense of wonder.

They like easy going and organic conversations. Most of the introverts are sapiosexuals and they get turned on by intelligent and soulful conversations.
If you are an Introvert, surround yourself with people with whom you can have deep and meaningful conversations.

4) Silence

Introverts need silence as much as they need meaningful conversations. They love people they can have comfortable silences with.

For Introverts spending time with someone is enough, they just want to feel your presence, they do not mind silences. For them quiet time is not awkward.
There are a lot of ways to enjoy comfortable silences. You can find your own silent activity that works for you and your friends.

I am personally blessed to have friends who understand my need for silence and spend some quiet time with me without letting it be awkward for a moment. We either go for silent nature walks or star gaze.

5) Time to Unwind and recharge their batteries

Just like Introverts need quiet space, they also need alone and quiet time to unwind and recharge their batteries. Most Introverts have their own bedtime rituals to unwind and recharge their batteries for the next day.

If the Introverts go a long time without their quiet time to recharge, they can become irritable and snappy. They need to set some time aside to relax and unwind on a regular basis to give them the energy to socialize again.

I personally read a bit or meditate every night before going to bed to unwind and recharge my batteries to face the next day with full zeal and enthusiasm.
