Top Tips To Unwind On Your Holiday

Top Tips To Unwind On Your Holiday

You’ve been counting the months and days until you can finally jet off on your much-deserved holiday. And you’re in real need of a week or two of pure and utter relaxation.

The problem is, despite desperately looking forward to going away, once you’re there, taking it easy doesn’t always happen. Let’s take a look at some tried and tested ways of maximizing your time off.

Preparation is key

One of the best things that you can do to get yourself in the right frame of mind and to reduce the pre-holiday stress is to finish all the things you need to do. Try to organize your time so that you are not rushing around last minute in a frantic state completing your arm-length to-do list.

Getting things finished, at work and home, will free your mind and allow you to start your holiday in the best possible state.

Cut off from your tech

This is definitely easier said than done. But we are all guilty of spending way too much time on our devices. Of course, sometimes this can’t be helped, particularly if it is work-related. However, for the most part, taking a break from the mindless scrolling is something that we could all benefit from.

Remember to enjoy the present, which is far easier to achieve when you are not distracted by your phone.

Indulge in some seriously good naps

There is something to be said about a nice holiday nap. After enjoying an amazing lunch, getting to hit the pillow, guilt-free, is a luxury to be enjoyed. While you can’t catch up on your sleep debt (the lack of sleep accumulated over a period of time), being able to take a nap is very good for you.

The restorative benefits of sleep are quite astounding. From improved memory function to looking more youthful, sleep is something we quite simply can’t be without. So use some of your holiday time to partake in some quality rest.

Fun activities

Holidays are the perfect time to try new activities and see new things. Have you been thinking for a while that you’d like to try a water sport? Or maybe you’ve wanted to have a golf lesson but never had the opportunity? Being away and having the luxury of time is a fabulous opportunity to try new hobbies and create amazing memories.

Calming experiences

If adrenaline-boosting activities are not up your street, then there are plenty of ways you can simply chill out. Book a spa treatment, get a manicure or pedicure, or have a massage. Maybe read that book you bought a year ago but have never had the chance to open the front cover.

Or, lie back on your sunbed, and sip on your cocktail or mocktail. Perhaps you could unwind with a nicotine pouch like Velo pouches – ideal for hands-free nicotine intake while reading that book and soaking up the delightful rays.

Seek out nature

Many of us live in urban centres and don’t get the chance to see much of Mother Nature. Thankfully, when you travel, you usually have more time to check out nearby nature spots.

Going for a walk and seeing the local landscape can often be a feast for the senses, allowing you to stretch your legs and breathe in some fresh air. Taking the time to do so is very restorative for the body, soul and mind.

Don’t go overboard on the food and drink

Again, this is another easier-said-than-done scenario, but one that will pay off. Even the healthiest individuals can go completely over the top when taking a break. It doesn’t help when many hotels offer a great breakfast spread, while the trip to the lunch buffet can extend to multiple plates. We have all been there.

There is something in our brains that tells us to indulge because we deserve it. Or maybe the food and drink is part of an all-inclusive package, so it seems completely wasteful not to eat or drink it. Alas, you will likely regret it if you are outrageously glutinous. So remember to think — moderation!

Forget about the time

Sounds silly, doesn’t it? But if you are like most people, clock-watching on holiday is very common. It may start as early as day one, when you lament to yourself that you only have a certain number of days left to enjoy your paradise.

You can overcome this by focusing on enjoying the present. Many mindfulness techniques can be employed to help relish the here and now, rather than allowing your mind to worry about tomorrow.

Enjoy a good chat

Finding the time to have a nice catch-up is not always easy. Enjoy the long evenings knowing you don’t have an early alarm call and spend that time connecting with your family and friends.

Follow these tips and you’ll be able to make the most of that precious holiday time and return refreshed and relaxed!
