How to care for oneself while grieving

grieving

Grief in its entirety strikes while you least expect it. The atrocity of sadness lies in the false notion of being alone and having it all together all the time. To be or not to be in the constant state of despair is not in oneโ€™s hands, as melancholy varies in its intensity ranging from a dejected mood to deep and chronic loneliness.

Oftentimes people subject their negativity to a mere passage of time, but often there is an underlying cause that needs to be addressed and healed to become in a state of awareness of their emotions and innate being. It is important to bring light to the need to embrace oneโ€™s emotions and not shame ourselves with guilt when we don’t feel happy or in rhythm with our souls.

Here are certain activities you can undertake that can help you understand and treat yourself with your grief better

1) Let Yourself Feel Your Emotions In Their Complete State Of Being –

It is important to give yourself complete freedom to let yourself express your grief. When you allow yourself to feel your emotions in their raw presence and not shame yourself for feeling that way, you create a safe space for yourself which helps you understand what is body and mind demanding at that moment.

2) Address Your Needs At The Moment –

While your mind is in constant influx of emotions, to be able to know the right thing to do is difficult. In that sense, give yourself the comfort and safety you are craving. Whether it is your favourite movie, talking to a friend or simply a warm relaxing bath, do what feels right to you in the moment which is not detrimental to your health and provides you instant gratification in the time being.

3) When You Are In A Better State Of Mind, Try To Understand What Is Making You Grieve –

If it is something unknown, sit down and try to reflect on what made you feel that way. If the grief that sets in is because of a major downturn or event in your life that has caused trauma or pain, share it with your family and friends, or talk to a therapist who will help you understand the underlying pain and process your feelings better,

4) Take Professional Help If Needed –

Talk to a licensed therapist or psychologist if the sadness persists and cannot let you function. As you talk to a mental health professional, the unhealed wounds that are attached to the event that caused grief or the underlying cause of your sadness can be detected. Be honest about your feelings, this helps lay a better framework for you to address your problem at hand.

5) Indulge In A Daily Routine –

When your mind is filled with negative thoughts, structure, discipline and routine would be your new friends, setting a non-binding yet disciplined routine of how your day should go, would help you stay busy and be mindful with your time and thoughts.

6) Engage In Leisurely Activities –

Set aside time for things that make you feel grateful and alive every day. Engaging in your favorite hobby will help you to unwind and relax, and at the same time create a space for an optimistic outlook towards life.

7) Know There Is No Perfect Timing To Heal And To Be Okay –

There is no guaranteed day or time when the grief will completely leave its traces on you, embrace whatever will come one day at a time. Focus on taking one step at a time.

8) Celebrate The Small Wins

Embrace the beauty of now, you are what you are in the present moment. Celebrate every victory of yours, no matter how big or small. Create the belief that no matter what happens I am with me with every small battle you win.

9) Know That What Happened Cannot Be Reversed –

The past lies in the past, and the pain that accompanied it belies in the hind. Grief in its nature heals with the rite of passage of time. Acceptance of the reality you forge in, no matter how dark or painful, will help you take everything that it is rather than what it should be.

10) Know That Your Feelings Are Valid –

Remember that no matter what you are grieving about deserves to be heard and is completely valid. Your feelings matter and how you feel matters.

11) This Too Shall Pass-

Embracing the notion that no matter how dark the existence is, the light will shine in its radiance with the encircle of time, will help you remember that you will not just survive, but feel happy and thrive in your life once again.

ย Not now, maybe not tomorrow but someday you will like you again.

On Survival

On Survival

The question of existence still haunts me in the silence of the stillness that loneliness brings with it. To be or not to be, to exist in the coexistence of dualistic forces, to dance with the uncertainty or to play it along the periphery, what I hold certain, has always questioned me, bemoaned me. Truth be told, I beheld the cry for help when its absence called in silent whispers around the blanket of dwelling and absconded its abundant presence over me. There is a painting that traces the bits of serenity in my life, the colors that adorn the hues of the almighty run deep through the veins of my soul to find the brevity of pain. I glance at the picture of Lord Krishna, reminiscing the days that passed by. Darkness sets its sterility in the brimming light of today, as the dawn of today paints itself in the colours of the dusk of yesterday. Life in its nuanced presence trods into the specter of transcending timelines. It takes only one fleeting moment to change

The Lullaby Of Love

The Lullaby Of Love

Lamenting lies smear their presence,In the dreary desert. The desertOf hope in which love has lost its way.I yearn in the sanguine felony of the eternal stream,To bow before the very eyes, to sit and pray.

The solstice of fall befalls warmth in its haling glory,A season of broken vows, that sting humanity in its piercing glance,Setting its fangs deep, the tales of unfulfilled dreams, in gallant themes,Usher their presence in the lament of the looming winter.

Darkness in its plight uproars the silence of desolated cries,In the tribulation of existence, light often loses its stance,Death when it finds you, let it find you alive.Mortality transcends its span, as death lays its icy hands,I don’t fear death, but bemoan the demise of the soul of those,Who embraced the deathbed before death ha

A Sip Of Amour

a sip of amour

Transcended amidst the virtues of love that are deemed true,I pondered over the predefined chaos that the amorous birds of prey hid under its sinewGlorified and unappalled, the essence of it belied in its gloryUnattained and unbothered, I knew that age-old tale wouldn’t write my story.

Books I have squandered across and tales I have been told,I want a love that breathes in me till my skin turns wrinkled and old.Beauty in the eyes of the beholder it resides,I yearn for a love that sees the pain in the walls that stand beside.

Amour in its exemplar beholds its ground high,
