6 Things You Can Do To Overcome Depression

overcome depression

Do you know you have more power than you think! Our mind is the most powerful place in our body, and everything that you feed it stores the way it is! Being aware of a mental health issue is the first step to curing it, which means you are already halfway there! How many times have you told yourself that โ€œMonday mornings are tedious, and I do not want to get out of the bed?โ€ Living with depression takes a lot more than you think, but society has often ignored such mental health problems!

All those internal grumblings, anxious feelings, tiredness and losing interest in favourite hobbies and things are the most common signs of depression.

However, we have mentioned some of the best ways to overcome depression without any severe medications. Take a look.

6 things you can do to overcome depression

Depression can be hard to battle but remember you have people to support you, help you, and lead you. Try practicing a few things that will help you get out of bed and start your day relatively fresh. However, if depression still persists and still feels the same, you can opt for counselling services in Australia.

1.  Say the thankfulness mantra loud!

I know how difficult it could be starting your day with depression because I have depression too! And it is very impossible to find joy in anything. Lack of interest and losing pleasure in things you used to enjoy once can be the most boring things now. But you must not give up; it can be difficult, but always remember to thank your life and the things you have in your life. Always be thankful for the things that you already have, and give gratitude every morning. You do not need to sit and pray, but spare 2 mins to your soul and rewind all the happy moments of your life, all those people, and the things that you have.

2. Start slow and achieve big!

Even the great scientists had this slogan in their minds! Start slow, be consistent, and it will lead you to success. An infinite to-do-list for people can be an excellent trigger for depressed ones. Hence, you need to go on the paths of others. Create your own way, start with small goals and short goals, or even a goal for a day. Shifting your perspective and seeing the world through your eyes and soul can give you a lot of happiness. And ignore people who discourage you in your path; always remember, you are different, and only one individual like you!

3. Talk to someone

Well, all have a busy life, we know, but your best friends and buddies can spare 30 minutes of their day for you, remember that! Depression can force you to shut yourself off, disconnect you from the world and even go into isolation, but trust me, you have got a great life. Try to make morning plans with your special one or someone who makes you feel excellent about yourself. Having accountability and connection go hand in hand, altogether, can make you win.

4. Ask for help!

Okay, I know, I feel you! I understand how difficult it is to ask for help from others, significantly when your mental health is declining. But the first thing to remember is, you have people who are craving and eager to support you and be there for you. You lost a job, it’s okay, you will find another one. If someone special broke up with you, you will get over it and trust me, you will find someone afraid of losing you. Express yourself to your friends and family, or anyone whom you have chosen as your family. Remember to avoid alcohol during such times; trust me, alcohol and drugs never help during anxiety and depression- instead, it makes it worse- I have been there!

5. Be kind to yourself and forgive yourself

Everyone makes mistakes! Some of us take time to realise our mistakes, while some never realise at all, and itโ€™s okay! Donโ€™t be your own critic; the more you self-criticize, the higher your depression will be. Whether you have depression or not, everyone has both good and bad days. Some week would be the best, while their Mondays would be the worst- and itโ€™s okay- again! Having a bad day is okay, but holding to itself is not okay at all! You need to keep moving, agreed; depression wonโ€™t allow you to move at all-but you can take one step at a time! Go slow, and remember, no one is rushing you!

Conclusion

There might be people who would tell you, โ€œjust snap out of your depressionโ€. Well, never listen to such people. Try to read books; you need not spend a whole day reading a book; just an hour or a couple of self-help book pages would be enough. Eat a good diet, never harm your health when you are depressed. Even bad foods and junk foods can make your depression worse. Eat chocolate, fruits and listen to good music. Remember, in the end, everything will turn out, just like you wanted!
