I Ask My Kids This Question Before They Go To Bed

I ask my kids this question before they go to bed, not every night, but most nights.  “Did I do anything today that I need to apologize to you about?”  They pause. Think. Tap their finger on their chin and relive the day. Then either they say, “no.” Or they say, “yes, you….” Then I own it and apologize.  It also frees them to apologize to me over any lingering regretful moments they’re processing.  Try it.
