Learning is the only constant, the ultimate way of you becoming the best of yourself you can ever be. When you learn something that you are passionate about, that is when the true magic starts. Passion and consistency pave the way for excellence in any field you decide to pursue.
I began working as a content writer when I was 18. The journey has been an inspiring and exhilarating one, where I worked with great companies and mentors who helped me understand the art of writing and the game of creating content that not only sells but brews a story in its authentic light. Writing in its entirety always appealed to me, poetry and blogging were my mediums of expressing my creative light, where I was not bound by word limits or writing formats but simply words flowing in a rhythmic flair. From starting my blog on Instagram during the lockdown to being awarded for my poetry, there are many lessons that I have learned in my journey.
Here are certain lessons I learned during my journey –
1) Having the grit to learn is more important than knowing the technicalities of any job –
The skills towards any job can always be taught on the job, but the attitude and demeanour one has towards any new endeavour is something that needs to be inherently present. If you can learn, and have the attitude to be open to receive feedback, any task given will be fruitful. When I started as a content writer in 2020, I did not have any proper knowledge about how the content game works, but over time as I gained more experience with learning different methodologies and styles of writing, it gave me the confidence I needed as a content writer.
2) Build your portfolio that showcases your best work-
Start documenting and displaying your work in the online world, and build a website that is a testament to the work you have done. Having an online presence and displayed proof towards the work that you are proud of will always help you grow and pitch yourself more confidently.
3) Have an artistic or creative outlet for yourself –
As a content writer, it sometimes gets tiring to write according to the expectations of the client. Having a creative space where you write only for yourself, not bound by any external expectations gives you the creative boost you need. The blog I hold with Times of India and the page dedicated to my poetry is a reflection of my true thoughts, giving me the freedom to express the creative skills I hone.
4) Be open to criticism and improve yourself over time –
This is one of the most important things to learn in any field. When you are in the initial stage of any industry, it becomes overwhelming to receive negative feedback or dissatisfaction over your work. But we need to know how to filter out what is relevant to learn from and what is not helping us grow in any way. Whenever we work with a client or post something on social media, we cannot dictate anyone to like what we have delivered. The perceptions of our work they hold are unique and individualistic to them, knowing what to take in as feedback and what to not pay heed to is something we should learn.
5) Network with people in your industry –
The emphasis that networking holds in its entirety cannot be stressed enough, it is important to meet and connect with people who hold the expertise that you forge yourself in. Knowing their journeys and experiences will always motivate us to grow in individualistic realms.
6) Hold pride in how far you have come and do not compare your journey to others –
Everybodyโs life holds different circumstances and what you have built for yourself is unique to you and the situations you faced in your journey. Knowing that what I do is best for me and not belittling myself for not achieving growth as much as someone else will only push me back. Embracing the notion of being safe and secure in your journey and being free of the good and bad opinions of others will make you feel validated and proud of yourself.
These are certain lessons I learned during my journey. Do any of these relate to your experience, do let me know in the comments below:)
