How to Survive College Being Stress-Free

Whoever said that college life is easy is probably a genius or a superhuman. Simply because college life is not easy. Yes, you read that right. College life is not and will never be easy. There are tons of papers you need to write, hundreds of assignments you need to accomplish, and a myriad of new information and ideas you need to process. If thereโ€™s one word that could describe it, that would be โ€œstressful.โ€

However, while all these may be true, thereโ€™s no need to worry because you can actually win over college. In what ways, you may ask. Itโ€™s quite simple. You just need to know the ways to beat stress. If you do them right, youโ€™ll be able to defeat what they call a โ€œstressful college life.โ€

In this post, we will provide you a list of guidelines prepared by Essay Kitchen that would help you reduce college stress. The advice for college students we have will surely help you in living a healthy and stress-free college life.

1. Take breaks regularly.

There are a lot of research which can prove that taking breaks in between study time actually helps student to be more productive. There are even studies saying that the maximum number of hours that the brain can process new information is only two hours. Thus, itโ€™s very important for one to take breaks regularly. After all, it wouldnโ€™t hurt that much if one stops for a while to maybe watch a show or a television series.

Taking a break reduces stress and gives more energy. When thereโ€™s more energy, one becomes more productive. So if you feel like your brain is already processing too much information, it would be better to stop first and do something that is not related to academics. You can either take a walk outside, read your favorite book, or just simply sit and drink coffee. This way, youโ€™ll be able to handle college being stress-free.

2. Get a pet.

Animals are adorable. Thatโ€™s a known fact. Some experts actually agree that they help in reducing oneโ€™s stress levels. Theyโ€™re like babies, except that, one cannot have a baby while he or she is still studying. In such case then, it would be better to adopt a pet instead.

Dogs, cats, hamsters โ€“ whatever animal oneโ€™s pet is, they will surely take the stress away. When you play with them, you become happier and relaxed. And when you feel happy and relaxed, youโ€™ll be able to study well.

3. Do your homework on time.

Accomplishing assignmentsย is actually an easy task if one has a lot of time. Since they are take-home activities, one actually has all the chances to perfect them. As you know, almost all information about almost all general things is available on the internet today. Thus, when oneโ€™s given an assignment, he or she should take that chance to actually give it his or her best shot.

Once you get home, rest for a while. Watch television for maybe about 30 minutes or eat your favorite snack. After that, immediately open your notes and do your assignment so you can sleep earlier. This way, you wonโ€™t have to stress yourself the next day just because you were not able to finish it yet. Finish it early so you can rest early.

4. Time management is the key.

Hundreds of research studies have already proven it โ€“ time management is the key to studying well and living a healthy college life. When one has a schedule for all his activities and daily routines, itโ€™s actually easier to accomplish things. All he has to do is follow what he has planned for the day.

To do time management, you have to outline all your tasks for each day. You can do it on a daily or weekly basis, but make sure that youโ€™ll be able to follow your schedule. After outlining, write or put the tasks in your calendar or your planner. This method is best practiced when you have a planner or a notebook where all your tasks and commitments may be found. Once you have written them down, simply follow them every day to the best of your abilities. Itโ€™s also advisable to have a separate standard schedule for your everyday responsibilities. This way, youโ€™ll be able to lend time for studying, leisure, and other commitments you have.

Time management is not easy if one has no discipline. Thus, to be able to adhere with the schedule that one has set for himself, he needs to be determined in following such schedule. Self-discipline and control is needed for this method to work.

5. Ask for help.

Yes, you read that right. Ask for help. Donโ€™t assume that you can do all things alone. The reason we have friends and family is so that weโ€™ll have someone to rely on in times of stress.

Simply put, if one is having a hard time to study, he or she can simply ask help from his or her friends or family members. If one doesnโ€™t understand the recent lesson that his or her instructor taught, he or she can ask his or her siblings, his or her parents even, to help him or her out. Whatever the problem is, one can always ask for help and assistance. The world is a good place and is filled with good people. To have a stress-free environment, you can always seek support from the people around you.

6. Get enough sleep.

Sometimes, one gets torn between โ€œgetting enough sleepโ€ to be more productive and โ€œfinishing all tasksโ€ to have less worries. Truth is, getting enough sleep is a little hard thing to do especially if your professors ask a lot from you.

For instance, when one needs to pass three difficult assignments for tomorrow but they were only given today, thatโ€™s a little hard if youโ€™ll really think about it. One just canโ€™t figure out how to do those homework given a short period of time.

You donโ€™t have to worry, though. Thatโ€™s why we said that time management is the key. Youโ€™ll probably think itโ€™s hard, but itโ€™s not if you know your capabilities. Once you get home, do everything early. If you start early, youโ€™ll be able to sleep early as well. Be mindful of the things you need to prioritize first (e.g. the hardest assignment) and finish it as soon as you can. Still take breaks if you feel like your brain is tired. Start working again once youโ€™re already relaxed. Finish what needs to get done and believe me, youโ€™ll end up accomplishing tasks earlier than you expected.

Sleep is a very important thing for one to live a healthy and stress-free life. When one has enough sleep, his or her brain is able to function well. In return, he or she becomes more productive.

College life is not easy. It will never be. It can be fun, but it can also be stressful most of the times. When this happens, you tend to lose focus and start feeling burnt out. Thus, you need to work not just hard, but also smart. Balance your time and seek for things that could make you happy even when youโ€™re already pressured and stressed. This way, youโ€™ll be able to live a healthy life in spite of all the things that make college life a stressful one.
