“The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.”

These are the words of Alan Wilson Watts, a British philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known as an interpreter and popularizer of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience. Coming from Britain, Alan Watts was one of the first pioneers to popularize these teachings for a western audience.

“What will be the good of the conquest of leisure and health, if no one remembers how to use them?” 

 

Just exactly what is the “good” to which we aspire through doing and eating things that are supposed to be good for us? This question is strictly taboo, for if it were seriously investigated the whole economy and social order would fall apart and have to be reorganized. It would be like the donkey finding out that the carrot dangled before him, to make him run, is hitched by a stick to his own collar. For the good to which we aspire exists only and always in the future. Because we cannot relate to the sensuous and material present we are most happy when good things are expected to happen, not when they are happening. We get such a kick out of looking forward to pleasures and rushing ahead to meet them that we can’t slow down enough to enjoy them when they come. We are therefore a civilization which suffers from chronic disappointment — a formidable swarm of spoiled children smashing their toys.

[Successful meditation brings about realizations:] That we are no longer this poor little stranger and afraid in a world it never made. But that you are this universe, and you are creating it in every moment… Because you see it starts now, it didn’t begin in the past, there was no past. See, if the universe began in the past when that happened it was now; see, but it’s still now — and the universe is still beginning now, and it’s trailing off like the wake of a ship from now, and that wake fades out so does the past. You can look back there to explain things, but the explanation disappears. You’ll never find it there… Things are not explained by the past, they are explained by what Happens Now. That Creates the past, and it begins here… That’s the birth of responsibility…”

 

Living in the present moment is the real secret of life:

“This is the real secret of life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.”

However, according to Alan Watts, western society has become too engaged with putting labels and names on things and being stuck in our mind.

 

He says:

“We are living in a culture entirely hypnotized by the illusion of time, in which the so-called present moment is felt as nothing but an infinitesimal hairline between an all-powerfully causative past and an absorbingly important future. We have no present. Our consciousness is almost completely preoccupied with memory and expectation. We do not realize that there never was, is, nor will be any other experience than present experience. We are therefore out of touch with reality. We confuse the world as talked about, described, and measured with the world which actually is. We are sick with a fascination for the useful tools of names and numbers, of symbols, signs, conceptions, and ideas.”

We need to stop blaming the past for any kind of situation we’re in and to see life as just like music:

“We must abandon completely the notion of blaming the past for any kind of situation we’re in and reverse our thinking and see that the past always flows back from the present. That now is the creative point of life. So you see it’s like the idea of forgiving somebody, you change the meaning of the past by doing that…Also, watch the flow of music. The melody as its expressed is changed by notes that come later. Just as the meaning of a sentence…you wait till later to find out what the sentence means…The present is always changing the past.”

Yes. That is how some of us feel about the man we are sharing our current lives with. Well, not me. I’m single. But then I do know a couple of females who have a weird blankness on their faces whenever they are asked if they see their boyfriend in their future. I’m sure they have some reason for that. 1- Can not Do Anything Without His Mom.

He is completely dependent on his momma for everything. It’s good to love your mother but it isn’t good for a grown-up guy to not be able to do anything without involving his mother on it. Being with this guy will just make you feel like he’s going to be your responsibility all your life. Not to forget, boys who are ridiculously involved with their mommas are very tough to deal with.

 

2-  He Believes A Woman Is His Husbands Property.

That’s the first stage of objectifying a woman and it is a complete no for such a guy. Someone who cannot understand the importance of a woman in a marriage is less likely to even respect her. And no relationship can survive without respect. He’s too much of a dictator to be a companion for life.

 

3- He Tries To Have A Word On Your Birth Control Issues.

Woman, listen to me, block this guy right now. Let alone a husband, he isn’t even a person to be in a relationship with. Your body is yours and nobody can take away your rights on your own body. If he flips out when you tell him that you want to get your tubes tied, then it’s a NO FOR THIS GUY IN CAPITAL LETTERS.

 

4- He Forces You To Bond With His Family.

There is no point in forcing a person to like someone. It comes from within. You should really reconsider marrying this guy if you don’t like his family. Marriage isn’t an overnight thing. You are going to spend an entire life with a person. You surely wouldn’t want to spend your entire life being surrounded by people you don’t like. It’s practically unfair on both sides. You can’t leave family behind. And if you are sure to not like them, then don’t let him force you to create a bond.

 

5- You Both Expect Different Things From A Marriage.

It’s ok to be different from your significant other. But it is not ok to share your life with someone who has different expectations from the relationship. If you both do not have a similar goal in your marriage then you might as well drop the thought of building it in the first place. When I was a small child I would dream of becoming a famous singer. Or imagine myself to be the star of my favorite movies. As the years passed and I began to get older, my dreams seemed to take a backseat to responsible choices. Choosing a major was based on income rather than passion. Modern society does not open doorways for imagination, in fact, it’s quite insistent on closing them.

A simple question could reveal a lot about your personality and outlook on life, a new study has claimed.
Your answer to ‘Is this a circle?’ suggests if your political stance is more liberal or conservative, researchers believe.

Those who answer “yes” to the question are more likely to be politically liberal and more accepting of deviant or marginalized groups in society, a study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology suggests.

While people who believe the above image is not a circle would more likely agree with more politically conservative views.

The author of Psy-Q, a book in which you can test your psychological intelligence, said these people would “actively want to help” these groups.

Meanwhile, “No” voters would prioritize having a strong military and support a zero-tolerance approach to crimes such as prostitution and illegal drug use.

Ambridge said this was “broadly speaking” the results of the study published in the journal.

“In three studies, participants were shown geometric figures and were asked to identify the extent to which they were “triangles” (or circles, squares),” an overview of the study explains.

“More conservative participants reported greater differentiation between perfect and imperfect shapes than more liberal participants, indicating greater sensitivity to deviance.

“Moreover, shape differentiation partly accounted for the relationship between political ideology and social policy, partially mediating the link between conservatism and harsher punishment of wrongdoers, less support for public aid for disadvantaged groups and less financial backing for policies that benefit marginalized groups in society.”

 

This is such a simple question and that can tell us an awful lot about you. “Is this a circle?”

If you said: “Yeah, sure, close enough,” then you are probably politically liberal, and strongly support the idea of government aid for the homeless and unemployed. You are also likely to support same-sex marriage and legalization of marijuana for recreational use.

If you said: “No, of course not,” then you are probably politically conservative, and strongly support the idea of protecting the rights of business owners and having a strong military. You are likely to take a particularly dim view of illegal immigration and would come down strongly on even relatively low-level crime, such as drug use and prostitution.

So if you meet someone new and doesn’t know how to broach the subject of their political orientation, just show them a “circle”.

A recent study examined the difference in outlook between open minded and close minded people.

The study stated that the quality of ‘openness’ has a lot of deciding power on what kind of reality an individual lives in. Most open minded people live in a completely different reality than other people!

Openness is not a set quality. It includes keeping an open mind, trying new things, meeting new people – basically a desire to explore and push the boundaries of what you know and have.

 

Open minded people are very gregarious.

The study, called ‘Seeing it both ways’, was conducted in the Melbourne University. A hundred and twenty three participants of various backgrounds were examined. Their character and views were measured. The test for open mindedness focused on five categories of personality – conscientiousness, neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness, and the ability to keep an open mind to new experiences.

They then tested who experienced a visual perception phenomenon called “binocular rivalry.”

This phenomenon occurs when each eye is shown a different image, in this case a red patch in one eye and a green patch to another. Most people switch back and forwards between the two incompatible images, as the brain can only perceive one at a time. But some people merge the two images into a unified red-green patch. Most participants who looked at both patches together were the ones who scored higher on openness!

Researchers theorize that open minded people tend to be more creative. Because these people are fine with keeping their mind open to experiences, learning and perception, they easily create new mental routes inside their head.

Therefore, they develop new ideas by connecting things a normal person would not. This finding had been mentioned in an old study from 2015 as well. Open mindedness, therefore, helps individuals attain higher planes of thought and a calmer resting state. It literally creates a different structure of reality by introducing new elements inside the picture normal people would not perceive. It broadens the world an individual lives in.

When you wake up in the morning you’ve just gone without water for about 8 hours, so it’s important to turn things around and start up the flow of water again. What you don’t want to do is leave out the water and go along with your day, having breakfast and other beverages before addressing your need for water.

 

2. Wake Up Earlier

This is priority one because in order to fit in a fantastic morning you’re going to need some extra time compared to your current routine.

 

If you’ve turned into a night owl because of the peace and quiet it affords, you’ll be equally satisfied by the same peace and quiet an early morning provides, and it’s simply a matter of shifting your personal time to the wee hours of the morning rather than late at night. The difference to your body is noticeable.

The Ideal Time To Wake Up

Wake up in conjunction with circadian rhythms if possible. Civil twilight is a great time to wake up because there will be enough light to see, the birds are chirping, and you still have time to catch the sunrise if you’re keen. Since this time varies by the time of year, it may be more feasible during some seasons than others. Give yourself an hour and a half before you have to be out the door.

 

3. Scrape Your Tongue

Taking time to scrape your tongue is one morning routine you won’t want to give up once you start it. It helps get rid of morning breath, and also is in line with the rejuvenation process you need to do to make the transition from sleep to wakefulness each day.

As a bonus you’ll be able to taste your food better without the film that’s on your tongue even after brushing your teeth.

Some toothbrushes come with a built-in scraper on the back of the head. If yours doesn’t have one you’ll want to invest in one. You can find some that are literally just a plastic triangle-shaped scraper, and others that feature special bristles that are designed to get into the grooves of your tongue. You can also go with the type that is stainless steel and U-shaped to get the job done.

 

 

4. Do A Stretching Routine

Here’s a great 5 minute stretch that you can do in the morning to wake your muscles up and get them ready for the day ahead. You should always modify any workout to your own abilities, and search until you find one that resonates with you.

You can also use this time to do a yoga routine, or an exercise routine, if you feel so inclined or are trying to lose weight. However, if you currently aren’t exercising regularly we recommend starting off with just some morning stretches until that becomes a habit, and then transitioning into yoga and other exercises when you organically start to feel like you could do more than just stretch.

How Long Do I Have to Stretch?

When first starting out it doesn’t matter how long you stretch, just as long as you do it. If you only have a few minutes for it, just do a few minutes. You’ll find that as you develop the habit, you’ll end up stretching for longer periods of time, and it will naturally expand on its own without the need to force yourself to do it for a set time.
