This Is Empathy

This Is Empathy

This Is Empathy: “Let me hold the door for you. I may have never walked a mile in your shoes, but I can see that your soles are worn and your strength is torn under the weight of a story I have never lived before. So let me hold the door for you. After all you’ve walked through, it’s the least I can do.”
– Morgan Harper Nichols.

  1. I can feel you breaking bc nothing sore happened to me today and I feel like I am breaking. Sadness bleeds around all of my edges and seeps into the deepest pieces of my soul where I am reminded that this isn’t me I am feeling ; it is you. I recognize it so well that it makes me crumble and ache to crawl inside of you and fall asleep. When I wake up I want to look into your eyes with a bit more love than yesterday and hope that you look back with that defeated and vulnerable gaze, allowing me to be a piece of who you are. (This is empathy. That other thing is sympathy and quite common. Many people never experience true empathy. They’re too aware of themselves to feel anyone else.)
