Empath: the ability to feel or sense what others are feeling and take on that emotion in your own body. Read Traits You Are An Empath

Clairsentient: the ability to sense what others are feeling, take that emotion in your own body, and receive instinctual information about the event or situation.

For many years, those with empathic abilities were simply called “overly sensitive” and were shunned or told to “suck it up” when they would feel things deeply.

Now, the idea of empathic people is becoming more highlighted in our consciousness as a society, and a lot of people have been able to identify with the definition.

Empathic

Empaths have the ability to feel what others are feeling and are sensitive in crowded spaces or when around large groups of people.

Read Which Emotions Are Yours? An Empath’s Guide To Balance! This is how you know, when you’re experiencing your own feelings and when you have “picked them up” from someone else.

They are likely to cry when other people cry and feel other people’s joy and pain. Empaths can also take these emotions into their own body and feel physical symptoms like headaches, nausea, and anxiety.

When we are very close and connected with someone, it is likely that we can also feel very sensitive to their emotions, however, empaths have the ability to do this with all people.

This can become very overwhelming if not contained and can lead to anxiety, depression and feeling drained.

Most empaths are clairsentient as well, however, they just may not know it.

The gift of Clairsentience is more psychic or intuitive in nature. Clairsentient’s can feel what other people are feeling and take this into their body, however they can also receive information about the emotion and why it is there.

This information is more of a “feeling” that helps to provide insight around the emotion. The feeling is often very intuitive and helps the person to know whether they should trust the situation or the person.

Those with the gift of Clairsentience have very, very heightened senses and may also be able to detect energy within a space or person.

If Spirits are present, those with Clairsentient abilities would be able to pick up on the feelings of that Spirit. If certain energy is present, such as emotional energy in a space, object or person, the Clairsentient will also be able to detect this.

In fact, if you are able to detect “energy” in a space, even when no one is around, or detect energy from a person even when they are not displaying emotions, it is most likely that you are clairsentient and not just empathic.

These sensations may manifest as:

  • Feeling what another person is feeling even if they are not displaying emotions
  • Feeling heavy when you walk into a room or meet someone
  • Feeling anxiety for no reason when in space or around a person
  • Sensing when those around you have pent up emotions
  • Experiencing a sudden change in mood
  • Sensing the presence of another being before you see them
  • Feeling uncomfortable in crowded spaces
  • Feeling pressure around your head or a headachey feeling

Once Empaths and Clairsentients alike have worked out how to manage their gifts and protect their energy from negative experiences, they can truly achieve a lot.

If you resonate with being either Empathic or Clairsentient, know that it is truly a gift, and when you learn to master it, it is really going to help you to live a life of enriched purpose.
