Youth Mental Health Programs Get a Boost from New National Grants

The youth mental health programs will receive necessary funding in 2026 from new corporate and philanthropic support dedicated to improving young people’s well-being. The Cigna Group Foundation has launched its Improving Youth Mental Health 2026 programs, committing $9 million over three years to improve youth programs in ten focus states: Arizona, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.

Youth mental health programs are created so that kids and teens can access support where they live everyday; at school, in the home and online. The grants will support family-school collaborations, school-based early intervention services, and community activities that provide training in coping skills, emotional literacy and how to access help. A well-designed youth mental health program can change a young person’s life forever, by encouraging them to obtain help for their anxiety or grief rather than suffering in silence.

Families report feeling overwhelmed by the fragmented nature of services available to help youth navigate these systems. Youth mental health service programs supported by this initiative are intended to assist families with this journey through coordinated care provided by teams composed of a teacher, counselor, and pediatrician. Many of these grant-funded programs also provide cultural responsiveness and multilingual service options, enabling Black, Latino, immigrant and LGBTQ+ youth to see themselves in caregivers, thus creating a safe environment for youth to open up and share about their health.

The Cigna Group Foundation leadership believes that funding to help provide programs to improve the mental well-being of young people represents an investment in the future workforce, schools, & communities. Children who have developed the ability to recognize their own feelings, develop resiliency and ask for assistance prior to reaching a crisis will achieve academic and social success, as well as have lower chances of going through a crisis. Parents who have gone through bad situations involving their kids have reported that they appreciated having access to resources such as youth mental health programs which help to provide them with the assurance that they are not alone in their experience of parenting their youth.
