Why Those With Mental Illness Withdraw From Social Events

Why Those With Mental Illness Withdraw From Social Events?

• Strong desire to see friends and loved ones

• Become overwhelmed… at the thought of having to fake a smile, being out in public, being a burden, dressing up/ having a shower, being misunderstood if they open up beyond “I’m fine”, feeling scared of having a breakdown etc.

• Decide to stay at home “at least here is controllable, comfortable and safe”

• Feeling lonely and isolated

Please understand: Those with a mental illness aren’t being rude…and they DO care deeply for those around them.

They are just battling a war in their mind that makes socializing very difficult some days.
