Matt Damon movies always get so much appreciation from the audience but this time scenarios were different. While Damon didnโ€™t mention the specific film that caused his depression, he has previously been candid about accepting roles in movies he knew were destined to fail.

One such example he discussed was โ€œThe Great Wall,โ€ a 2016 monster film directed by Zhang Yimou, which received negative reviews and faced criticism for its white savior narrative.

Although Damon has graced the silver screen in multiple typical Matt Damon movies before he fell into a depression he had received acclaim and even won Academy Awards.

Well, he has also been involved in various movies that were met with harsh criticism from both audiences and critics alike, failing to make a significant impact at the box office.

In the movie, Damon portrayed a European mercenary who joins forces with Chinese troops to combat an alien menace. Despite having a production budget of $150 million, the film struggled to surpass $50 million at the U.S. box office.

During an interview on the โ€œWTFโ€ podcast in 2021, Damon expressed his thoughts on the filming experience for โ€œThe Great Wall.โ€ He described it as a situation where disasters unfold, while shooting the movie I got an idea that this movie lacked coherence and failed to work as a cohesive whole.

Reflecting on the project, Damon shared his perspective at the time, stating that enduring such circumstances epitomized the essence of a professional actor.

He likened it to being in a dire situation, akin to the uphill battle depicted in the film โ€œHamburger Hill,โ€ where he acknowledged the certainty of artistic demise but persevered nonetheless.ย

Damon considered this experience as the epitome of feeling creatively drained, expressing his hope to avoid ever encountering that sensation again and he wished that he never do such a disappointing movie like this ever in his acting career.
