The narcissist wants someone who will make him look good. It’s like they are saying “Look who I’m with, I must be the shit to attract her.” But since you are above him, he has to run you down privately. He has to say and do things in public so that others see he has the control. He has to demean, belittle, and put you down to make himself feel good. He needs to feel he’s on the same level as you, or even better than you. Deep down he knows the truth, that you are 100 times better than he will ever be – and so do you.
