I have been in a relationship just like this. He is s text book narcissist and I am an INFJ. All of these points are so true, it’s like a checklist for our relationship. He is constantly trying to make me feel bad for him. Every morning all I hear is how he doesn’t want to go to his job that he hates. Instead of changing his life and job he would rather complain and play the victim. I’ve tried many times to help him change his life and job but he wants to be miserable. That way he can keep me feeling sorry for his situation. The problem with this is, I don’t feel sorry for him. My feeling is that if you need change in your life, then change your life. I have left this relationship many times only to be lured back in with the promise of it being different. It never is. I suppose one day soon I will leave and never come back. If 5 years of trying to help someone isn’t enough, then what is?

Constantly claiming to be a victim is not a sign of virtue. It’s a strategy for narcissists and psychopaths to get ahead.
