Instead of saying, “I know exactly how you feel,” try this:
•“How are you feeling?”
•”What has it been like for you?”
•”How have you been doing?”
•”Do you want to talk about it?”
•”I’m here for you.”
•”You can vent anytime you need to talk about it.”
•“What is the hardest part?”
•”What are you most worried about?”
•”Can I help you figure out your next step?”
