Waking up at 7:00 AM after the mother’s pleas, dragging that lazy ass to the washroom and coming out ready to see the breakfast served on the dining table or on the bed in the best case, going out to school or work or any place you wish, learning what you like, living the way you like, meeting different people, liking few of them, loving one of them, going places with friends, living with your head high, coming back home to be the Princess, doing homework, dining what you wish, texting with friends and boyfriends, wishing them good night, thinking about how and when to tell the parents about the love, dreaming those beautiful ways to live and then sleeping like a baby.
This wasn’t exactly how they lived, the women of fiftyish age now. They had to wake up early, most of them wished “Good Morning” to the rising sun with a broom stick in their hands sweeping. They had to help their moms, they had to learn to cook and when they learnt, they had to cook, they had to do dishes, they had to give morning coffees to their fathers or husbands, they had to wash clothes, and then they had to get ready for school or work.
They shouldn’t meet new people, they had to talk only to girls, according to an unknown law to which the society agreed, talking to a man was a crime then. They had fewer friends, they studied what they were taught, they lived in a way designed by the society.
They weren’t allowed to dream big, they never should walk with their head high and when they finally came back home, they had to work again, they had to do dishes again, they had to cook again, they had to serve and then they had to eat.
Rarely, if any of them had any dreams of flying high, all those dreams were murdered with just one act, Marriage. Marriage to some man whom they didn’t know anything about. After which, their life happens as that man dictate.
Yet they found happiness in their lives, they improved their lives, they improved our lives. Year after year, they became better people, they became better cooks, they understood the world better, they let us dream big, they did everything they could to let us be what we are now and what we want to be.
These are the women of my mom’s age; these women are different from the generations before and after them. Few generations before them, women weren’t allowed to study, women weren’t even allowed to go out of their houses, I guess, they never knew what to dream.
But women of my mom’s age, many of them were sent to school, taught to study and learn. They dreamt. Yet the majority of them consciously or not worked for their dreams, they never knew if it was possible, they never knew if they can fly high, they never knew if they had wings.
And now when they know it is possible but too late, they are making it possible for their children. After all, what more can they do? They always do whatever they could.
They dreamt. Yet the majority of them consciously or not worked for their dreams, they never knew if it was possible, they never knew if they can fly high, they never knew if they had wings. And now when they know it is possible but too late, they are making it possible for their children. After all, what more can they do? They always do whatever they could.
I believe all these inevitable suffering women went through was because, on some unfortunate day in the past, women by force or by volunteering agreed to be inferior to men, it’s not anyone but them who wrongly believed that they need to lead such a life and the service they did to the mankind by doing so is invaluable and immeasurable.
The silver lining of the whole story is that many men have changed, more are changing, they believe that women are equal to them, they learned to do household chores, they learned to cook, they learned to do everything on their own.
Though it looks like they learned all this to live by themselves, it’s real because they understood what women went through. And the only reason behind this understanding is the women of my mother’s generation. looking at what their mothers did for them and the family, men learned to serve women, they learned to treat women as they treat themselves. And the men understood that the debt men owe to women can never be repaid.
If there is anything mankind can do to repay the debt, it is to believe that women are always equal to men, and to treat them as they are a step above us, for that they had done for centuries what men couldn’t even imagine themselves doing, it is to understand that women are the only known channel between this physical world and the spiritual realm and to treat them the way goddesses are treated.
And to make sure that every woman understands that she was born with the wings of freedom and to cheer them when they fly high.
