Make 2019 a selfish year for yourself- Here’s why.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection” – Buddha.

In this world where the fittest one only survives, we have to take care of ourselves first because if we don’t, nobody else will.

There’s a difference between selfishness and self-love. Self-love is this act of survival and there’s no harm in it. Rather, it’s important for us to understand that self-love is a necessity.

It’s pretty unfortunate that most of us have been ignoring ourselves. We have been living without self-love which has restricted our growth. Self-love unfurls the endless colors that have remained dormant within us all this while. We not only evolve but it also helps us in contributing more to this universe.

It’s 2019 and the year calls for selfishness. You deserve to take care of yourself, nurture yourself and be happy.

Here’s why:

(1) You will realize that you are your best friend:

“You’re always with yourself, so you might as well enjoy the company.”
Diane Von Furstenberg

Most of us spend too much time on social media, going gaga over the seemingly happy lifestyles led by our peers. We are not happy with ourselves; we want to be someone else.

Our society is progressing fast and the ‘best’ is always changing. Don’t get trapped in this vicious cycle. Instead, love yourself; appreciate the human being you are; be your own best friend and you will find you are at peace.

(2) Your physical health will become better:

When I loved myself enough, I began leaving whatever wasn’t healthy. This meant people, jobs, my own beliefs and habits – anything that kept me small.  My judgement called it disloyal. Now I see it as self-loving.

– Kim McMillen

Loving yourself means giving more time to yourself. When we don’t love ourselves, we tend to go for all the wrong food and relationships which decreases our physical and mental health.

Instead, take some time off to relax. Give time to rejuvenate your body. Meditation, exercise, physical activity will help you rejuvenate along with a proper diet which is based on home-made meals.

Once your body starts feeling fresh and is full of energy, you will get that positive vibe in your soul too.

(3) Your life will become simpler and less complicated:

“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.”– Lucille Ball.

Once you start loving yourself, you will find that your life is sorted. There will be less complications in your life because you will know exactly what you want from yourself to be happy. Things will be either an yes for you or a no.

(4) Loving yourself will help you find better relationships:

“Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.”Lao-Tzu

Once you are in love with yourself, you will be able to understand what is the right kind of love.

Since you know your self-worth and you love yourself so much, you will be able to understand who loves you genuinely; your confidence in yourself will make others respect you.

(5) Prioritizing yourself will help you achieve your dreams:

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”Howard Washington Thurman

A lot of people die with unfulfilled dreams because all their life, they have given priority to anyone but themselves; they die with regrets.

Don’t let this happen to you. You have only one life. Do what you have always wanted to do. It will make you feel happy and satisfied.

(6) You will find stability in your life:

Be faithful to that which exists within yourself.”– André Gide.

Self-love will give you the stability you have been craving for. The moment you are at peace with yourself, the rest of the things will fall in place.

(6) Self-care will change your mindset:

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”– Eleanor Roosevelt.

The moment you start practicing self-care, you will slowly stop having psychological problems like depression and others. No matter how much others want to hurt you, you have your own back, right?

You know how to be happy with yourself. You don’t need validation from anyone.  This will make you a stronger, optimistic and happy person.

2019 calls for utilizing your full potential. Discover the power within and live your life to the fullest!
