The Santa Clause 1

Meet Me In St. Louis scaled 1

This is easily one of my most favourite old Christmas movies of all time!

One of the most awesome musicals ever made, โ€œMeet Me in St. Louisโ€, is a heart-warming holiday movie that takes a look at the Smithsโ€™ lives as they love, live and wait for the 1904 Worldโ€™s Fair.

Shot with Technicolor, the movie is filled with beautiful songs, colours and melodies that echo their ordinary joys and tribulations. The performance of Judy Garland was so touching, it captured the feelings of families together with the sadness accompanying growing up through her rendition of โ€œHave yourself a merry little Christmasโ€.

It is one of those classic family Christmas movies that amalgamates music and nostalgia into a cloth of pure filmy happiness.

4. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)

A Charlie Brown Christmas

One of the best old animated Christmas movies, it is a simple yet highly expressive drawing which brings to life a number of much loved figures each illustrating something about Charlieโ€™s perception of what makes up that special feeling in X-mas.

Just like every other carol, the smooth jazz score has been integrated into the plot thus forming part and parcel of its soundtrack during this particular time of year. Not only does this special entertain, but it also softly encourages us to think more deeply about the meaningful side of Christmas.

5. National Lampoonโ€™s Christmas Vacation (1989)

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

One of the most wildly popular and classic Christmas movies is this one right here.

This lovely movie takes us on a hilariously tumultuous ride with the Griswold family, led by the ever-optimistic Clark Griswold, played to comedic perfection by Chevy Chase.

Clarkโ€™s dream of a perfect family Christmas spirals into a series of laugh-out-loud mishaps and misadventures, from outrageous Christmas light displays to chaotic family gatherings.

This holiday classic, brimming with slapstick humour and heart, mirrors the often unpredictable but ultimately cherished moments of family celebrations. Itโ€™s a film that not only tickles the funny bone but also warmly embraces the imperfect, yet endearing, reality of family holidays.

Old Christmas movies - Elf

Starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, a man raised by elves in the North Pole who brings his own elf-like charm to New York City in an attempt to find his actual father. This movie shows a beautiful journey marked by laughter and sentimentality.

One of the most iconic performances of Ferrellโ€™s, this is probably his most well-loved performance too. It is both funny and sweet with Christmas cheer and family warmth in it. This modern classic captures the spirit of Christmas that takes us back to our childhood moments during the holidays filled with excitement and wonder.

7. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Old Christmas movies - The Nightmare Before Christmas

Directed by Tim Burton, this is one of the most beloved old animated Christmas movies which introduces Jack Skellington from Halloween Town to us. His curiosity led him to Christmas Town, which appeared in the form of joyfulness and light.

In this stop-motion animation, there is a little bit of Halloween scare and all the warmth of Christmas. This unusual kind of film combines festive atmosphere to create a magical feeling that is slightly spooky.

One of the most exceptional old Christmas movies, it has its own unique appeal for those who want a twist with their holiday cheer. It is one of those classic Christmas movies that distinguishes itself as much by its innovation as by its nostalgic qualities.

Now, this is one of those classic family Christmas movies which I watch every year without fail, on Christmas Eve. Itโ€™s like my own little Christmas tradition!

This charming holiday movie is a romantic comedy that tells the story of Iris (Kate Winslet) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz), who exchange homes during the holiday season to get away from their personal heartaches.

In their new surroundings, they each find unexpected romance and embark on journeys of self-discovery. Set against the cozy backdrop of Christmas, the film weaves together tales of love and new beginnings.

Itโ€™s a feel-good movie that captures the magic of the festive season and the warmth of finding connection and happiness in unexpected places, leaving us with a sense of hope and happiness.
