WRITING A DIARY – OLD-FASHIONED OR TRENDY

WRITING A DIARY – OLD-FASHIONED OR TRENDY

Virtually everyone has tried to keep a diary at some point in time and failed. There is so much buzz going on around it today that it seems more pleasing to pretend to have one than to actually have one. As kids, we all seem so caught up in the euphoria. There is usually that little, colorful book in which we record what the family did on what day. Those were fun times.

However, the habit seems to fade with time, especially at the onset of adulthood. At that stage, life gets more demanding that a diary simply has to take a back seat. But then again, you encounter motivational speakers and life coaches who try to harass you into sitting down for minutes each day and pour your thoughts out. It is now considered the in-thing that many people who do have a one now, do so in order to align themselves with the trend, and not because they actually consider it a valuable habit.

Why do you need a diary?

Writing a diary is simply pouring our thoughts out, in whatever form that takes. People keep diaries to document events, help themselves emotionally, practice writing, etc. If you have ever tried, without success, to recall a particular event, then you would know how important a diary is. It helps you to maintain track of happenings in your life and not only be able to recall them but to remain grateful for life itself.

Diaries can also be therapeutic. People who own one describe each experience as one that makes them feel like they have just gotten a burden off their shoulders. Putting your thoughts and experiences (including negative ones) makes you understand yourself better. It also makes you more clear-headed when you have to make decisions. Overall, it is an important part of emotional care. It is not just about jumping into a fad.

Many writers are known to keep diaries of their thoughts and happenings around them so that they could use their notes in future pieces. It is no secret that the way to become a better writer is to write more – it doesn’t matter where and why. Let’s consider the best essay examples; they are usually a combination of excellent writing and intelligent points. Even if you patronize a free online paper service such as paperap.com, which I, for example, use to do my essay, you still have to be a good writer yourself. It means, that in particular, diary writing helps you to become a professional, ensures consistency, which improves your skills. Although being a student, you would have to submit papers from time to time, etc., and those skills come into play then, even if you are highly intelligent, don’t forget that your diary still may become a genuine masterpiece.

How does one keep a diary?

Diary writing is a free-flow style with very fluid rules if any at all. Therefore, this section does not give rules on keeping diaries. It only offers suggestions and tips on how to write a diary.

  • Be Consistent:

when trying to build a new habit, there is nothing as important as being consistent. It would help if you can choose a specific time of each day to enter your entry. As you become used to it, you may relax the rules. But consistency and persistence are key.

  • Be Organized:

as anyone who keeps a diary would tell you, it can get messy. Many people who stop writing do so because they are no longer able to manage the clutter. You can forestall this by making yours organized. That means including dates and assigning topics to all the entries, among others.

  • Be Honest:

there are no rules to what you can write about. Besides, the words are meant for your eyes alone, and (as far as you keep it safe), you do not have to worry about anyone seeing what you wrote. Therefore, it would help if you were as honest with yourself as possible. Record your feelings, thoughts, opinions, anything. This freedom is, in fact, part of why anyone should keep a diary. And this is what differs keeping a diary from writing an essay. Essays have to be consistent and rounded. To write a good essay, you often have to check many essay examples and look at other free papers available online, and even use a conclusion generator if you’re having trouble concluding your piece. With a diary, you don’t have to do any of those. Just be honest and write.

The best thing about keeping a diary is that it is very easy. Just pick a notebook and a pen, and write away! There are no rules as to what, why, how, where you can write. This is not about being trendy, and it does not matter if it is old-fashioned either. What matters is that it is beneficial, in many ways.
