Top 10 Healthiest States In The US: Insights from The Lighthouse Study

Author :

Ever wondered which come under the healthiest states in the US? Colorado is taking the lead, but there’s more to this interesting health ranking story.

In a recent study conducted by the Lighthouse Dental Centre, Colorado has emerged as the healthiest state in the United States, with a host of factors contributing to its top ranking. The study, which evaluated overall health and well-being in all 50 states, drew on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to determine the rankings.

Colorado’s stellar performance can be attributed to several key factors. The state boasts low levels of air pollution, a low prevalence of diseases, and a relatively low obesity rate.

In addition to these factors, Colorado residents have demonstrated a commitment to physical activity, better sleep patterns, and healthier habits when it comes to smoking and drinking. Surprisingly, even the number of adults with all their teeth intact played a role in the state’s high ranking, emphasizing the importance of dental health in overall well-being.

On the flip side, West Virginia finds itself at the bottom of the list, earning the unfortunate title of the least healthy state. This ranking is largely due to the state’s concerning rates of air pollution, obesity, physical inactivity, poor sleep patterns, high smoking and binge-drinking habits, and a significant prevalence of tooth loss.

West Virginia has also faced challenges related to mental health, with its residents being labeled the unhappiest in the United States, citing adult depression, poor emotional and physical well-being, a lackluster work environment, and inadequate sleep as contributing factors.

The study’s findings have surfaced at a time when research conducted by OnePoll for ClearMatch Medicare revealed that two-thirds of Americans aged 65 and older wish they had taken their health more seriously in their younger years.

Ben Pajak, the CEO of ClearMatch Medicare, stressed the importance of prioritizing health at any age. He highlighted that setting fitness goals and taking advantage of fitness benefits provided by Medicare Advantage plans can significantly contribute to maintaining optimal health.
