On the one hand, performing a tarot reading séance for someone else is a huge responsibility. You have to mind what you say and be honest, no matter what. On the other hand, it’s an exciting and even fun experience that doesn’t have to be intimidating!
Whether you’re a beginner or a tarot guru, sticking to a clear process can help you tune in and do a meaningful and concise reading session for someone who means a lot to you or a complete stranger (doesn’t matter!). Below, you’re welcome to study five simple steps we offer to guide you through an accurate tarot reading séance performed for someone else.
#1 Set the Right Mood
Before you start the process, it is important to establish a mood for the reading session. Whether it’s a love, tarot reading yes or no from experts, or any other session, use all the essential ‘ingredients’ to provide the right ambience for your potential querent: burning incense, lighting candles, and/or playing calming music. Thus, you will be able to create a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere that will be calming for you both.
#2 Understand Their Question
Ask the person in front of you what kind of guidance they are looking for. However, once you hear the question, do not overthink it! Instead, encourage your querent to be open and honest. At the same time, let them know that they’re free not to give every single detail. Is it personal growth, love, career, or something else that they would like to get insight into? Encourage your client to ask open-ended questions, such as, “What do I need to know about my new position at X company?” or “What can I do to boost my health?” When you hear the question, never (never!) analyze it too deeply. Your only task here is to provide insight through the tarot cards, without judging or fixing somebody’s life.
#3 Shuffle the Deck
The good news is that there are no strict rules for shuffling the tarot cards. It’s up to you to choose what way to go. For example, you may divide the deck into two. Now, do the shuffling and mix the two parts into a single stack. Now, shuffle again. As you go, make sure to trust your inner self. The point here is that a good shuffle is a must when you need to ‘wake’ your tarot cards and get the energy flows moving. Not only will you get in the right energy flow, but you’ll also set the right mood for the reading session.
#4 Pull a Card
When you know the question and the shuffling job is done, it’s time to pull a card. It’s up to you how exactly you’re going to do it – by asking your querent to pick a particular number of cards or pulling cards yourself. If you let your client do it, you can thus do the well-known Celtic cross. At the same time, you can pull the card(s) yourself if you feel like it’s something only you should deal with.
When it’s time to pull a card, here’s what you can do:
- Shuffle the tarot cards until a couple of those fall out.
- Shuffle the deck and pull cards from the top of it.
- Spread the whole deck and choose cards that (you feel) are calling you.
Don’t know where to start? For those who are still wondering what their tarot reading style is, we recommend doing the popular 3-card spread. All you have to do is pull 3 tarots and place all the cards next to each other. Now, you have to assign a particular context to every card from left to right. For instance, the first card can be your present, the second can stand for the future, while the third can go for the past.
#5 Use Your Intuition and Logic to Read and Interpret the Cards
When the tarot cards are laid out, take your time to ‘read’ them. While it is recommended to know the basic meanings of the tarot cards, you are welcome to read and interpret them based on the energy that you feel. After all, it’s impossible to trust your memory every time you pull a card. Besides, we all know that tarot reading séance relies heavily on your intuition, so make sure to give it a try. We recommend that you begin with the ‘conventional’ meanings of the cards. It’s important to focus on colors, symbols, imagery, and all the other elements that stand out.
Finally, let your intuition work to the fullest. Sometimes, the same card can feel absolutely different based on the context or the person in front of you. The key to a successful reading session is to go beyond just traditional meanings from the tarot manual. Instead, let your knowledge mix with your intuition so that your querent is 100% satisfied with the process. Keep in mind that the latter shouldn’t include absolutes like ‘This IS going to happen’ while you, as a reader, have to remain empathetic and encourage your client to ask questions or reflect on the interpretation for as long as they need.
Respect Is Above All
Oh, and in addition to all that – make sure to respect the tarot. It’s not just another way to have fun and kill time, but an effective tool for divination and self-inspection. With that in mind, ensure to treat every card in the deck with care and use them with sincerity and seriousness. After all, performing a reading session for someone else can be a unique, useful, and powerful experience.
But you should also approach every séance with humility and respect. Just a pinch of patience and practice, and you will become a tarot guru sooner than you know. Not only will you provide accurate guidance for someone else, but you’ll also polish up your skills to perform effective solo reading sessions.
