Do you see the pressure teens are under? Helping young people manage anxiety weighs heavily on the minds of parents and school staff alike. Parents of anxious teens, take note! In May 2025, Seattle’s Freespira secured FDA approval for a drug-free way to help 13- to 17-year-olds find calm. The solution? This program uses breathing exercises alongside insightful video instruction. It aims to address the fundamental causes of panic attacks and PTSD, recalibrating the physiological response to perceived threats.
Our young people are facing a mental health emergency. Almost half of high school students admit anxiety or depression hurts their performance in school. Freespira gives people a different way to calm anxiety. Because of this, lots of teens and their families are picking it over pills or traditional therapy. CEO Joe Perekupka explained they have a chance to bring more support to young people who are really struggling.
Humanizing the search for anxiety relief means listening, reviewing options, and creating a safe space to try new things. This year, more teens are leaving stigma at the door and embracing whatever support works for them.
