What Is the Lumina Personality Test?

The Lumina Personality Test is a new method for assessing personality. It was created in 2009 by Lumina Learning. It abandons fixed labels and instead builds on established theories of psychology.

This method recognizes that people have a wide range of qualities that may change depending on the situation, rather than fixing them to certain personality types.

The Origins of Lumina’s Approach

To develop the Lumina model, researchers analyzed various historical personality classification systems:

  1. Hippocrates’ Four Humors: Ancient Greek theory linking temperament to bodily fluids, defining four types, sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic.
  2. Jung’s Personality Theory (1921): Introduced dimensions like thinking/feeling and sensing/intuition, forming the basis of modern assessments.
  3. Big Five Traits: A data-driven framework identifying openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism.
  4. MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator): Adapted from Jung’s work, this popular model categorizes individuals into fixed personality types.

Lumina’s Eight Personality Groups

The Lumina Personality Test free groups people into eight personality groups, each consisting of three core traits. These groups are further classified into two overarching categories:

  • “Hot” Personality Types: Inspiration Driven, Big Picture Thinking, Extraverted, and Outcome Focused.
  • “Cold” Personality Types: Discipline Driven, Down to Earth, Introverted, and People Focused.

This method allows you to recognize that you may exhibit traits from both categories at different times, depending on your circumstances and environment.

This quiz does not box you into fixed categories. Instead, it recognizes that people are multifaceted and capable of showcasing opposite personality traits.
