The chakra system is more than just an ancient concept, it’s a powerful lens to understand how the body stores and processes pain. When we look at emotional trauma and chakras, it becomes clear that unhealed wounds often show up as physical, mental, and spiritual imbalances. By exploring the deep connection between emotional trauma and our energy centers, we uncover how true healing can begin from within.
We know that our emotions are energy. We know that unprocessed emotions are stored in the body. We know that we need to release these emotions in order to find full nervous system healing. So I want to take today to introduce you to your chakra system. Before you think, “Oh great, another woo woo post”, keep an open mind here!
I have had lower back issues my entire life. There wasn’t anything specific that happened to cause the pain, it has just been something that happened over the years, as I got older. It doesn’t matter what I try to do to relieve the pain: stretching, yoga, seeing a chiropractor, the lower back pain always comes back, and I could never understand why.
Until I learned how emotional trauma manifests. It is by examining the chakra system through a trauma-informed lens, the reasons we have physical ailments become very clear.
Let’s break it down.

Emotional Trauma and Your Chakra System: The Hidden Link You Need to Know
Our body has 7 energy centers, each one representing a different piece of our well-being.
At the base of the spine is your root chakra represented by the colour red. This represents stability, security, and our basic needs. Blockages in this chakra can manifest as feelings of insecurity, financial difficulties, or a lack of grounding.
Next up is the sacral chakra, located at the navel. This chakra governs creativity, sexuality, and emotional balance and is represented by the colour orange. Blockages may lead to creative blocks, intimacy issues, or emotional instability.
Situated in the upper abdomen, the solar plexus chakra is associated with personal power, confidence, and self-esteem. Blockages in this chakra can result in low self-esteem, lack of motivation, or difficulty asserting oneself.
Now think about this. When we experience emotional trauma as a child, our sense of safety (root) has been threatened and we become ungrounded. When we feel insecure, our emotions are not in balance (sacral), so we begin to seek safety in other people or things.
When we seek safety outside ourselves, we lose access to our personal power, voice, and confidence (solar plexus). It doesn’t matter if we people please or seek excessive admiration, both are trauma responses of someone searching for validation externally because they have lost their connection to self-safety.
Let’s move on.
Located in the center of the chest, the heart chakra represents love, compassion, and connection. Blockages may manifest as difficulties in giving or receiving love, feelings of isolation, or holding onto grudges.
The throat chakra is represented by the colour blue, and governs communication, self-expression, and truth. Blockages can lead to difficulty expressing oneself, fear of speaking up, or communication issues.
Next is the third eye, situated between the eyebrows. The third eye chakra is associated with intuition, perception, and imagination and is represented by the colour indigo. Blockages may manifest as lack of clarity, difficulty making decisions, or feeling disconnected from one’s intuition.
And finally, the crown chakra located at the top of the head and represented by the colour violet. This is our spiritual connection, enlightenment, and oneness with the universe. Blockages can result in feelings of disconnection from spirituality, closed-mindedness, or lack of purpose.
So they say that the bottom three chakras represent our physical bodies and our physical experience on earth. The top three represent our connection to our higher self, but we cannot even begin to access the connection to our higher healed self, our intuition and our personal truth, until we heal the lower three chakras.
But how do we do that? Through the heart. An open heart heals our lower three chakras and connects us to our higher self.
When it comes to healing our emotional trauma, there is nothing to fix. We are not broken. We are wounded by a society that has told us false stories about ourselves. We heal those wounds by loving ourselves anyway. Through self-compassion.
And it is through self-compassion that we are able to cultivate empathy. We can understand other people’s wounds because we have fully understood our own. But if you reject your wounds, or deny they exist, you never fully know yourself or learn to love yourself. Empathy is what heals.

Reiki is a holistic Japanese healing technique that manipulates energy to balance and harmonize the recipient’s chakra centers, removing any energetic blockages that are keeping you stuck in mental, physical, or emotional unwellness. Reiki facilitates the body’s natural healing process by promoting relaxation, nervous system regulation, stress reduction, pain relief, physical and emotional healing and improved sleep.
Reiki can be received from a practitioner in person, or from a distance because it is based on the fundamental principle that we are all connected. Through intentionality, a practitioner is able to link up to the recipient’s energy system, and provide clearing wherever they are in the world.
