New IDF Mental Health Center to Provide Critical Support for Soldiers

In a bid to bolster mental health support for its soldiers, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is set to inaugurate a state-of-the-art mental health center within the Medic Corps, housed in the Technology and Logistics Division. Scheduled for inauguration on Thursday, this facility aims to offer accessible and high-quality treatment to address the psychological needs of IDF personnel.

The newly established center encompasses various specialized units, including the Family Center for Career Army Service, the Combat Response unit, and the โ€˜Liatโ€™ unit.

Staffed with top-tier civilian therapists, the โ€˜Liatโ€™ unit specifically caters to soldiers in their first and second year of permanent service. These units collectively strive to provide comprehensive care tailored to the unique challenges faced by military personnel.

Since the outbreak of recent conflicts, the Medic Corps has maintained a robust network of mental health professionals deployed across all sectors. Their primary objective is to deliver prompt and effective support to soldiers grappling with mental health issues resulting from combat experiences.

During the recent hostilities, teams of military personnel were dispatched to the Gaza Strip to offer immediate assistance to combat soldiers confronting various forms of psychological distress. Remarkably, approximately 85% of soldiers requiring mental health treatment were able to resume combat duties following the intervention.

Mental Health Center For Soldiers

In addition to the on-ground support, the IDF has launched a 24/7 mental health call center as part of its emergency medical unit. This initiative ensures continuous access to vital support services for soldiers in need, regardless of the hour or location.

Major General Michel Yanko, head of the Technology and Logistics Division, emphasized the divisionโ€™s commitment to enhancing response services for all IDF personnel. He underscored the imperative of acknowledging the profound impact of warfare on mental well-being and expressed confidence in the newly established mental health centerโ€™s ability to meet this critical need.

Chief Medical Officer Lt. Col. Prof. Elon Glazberg reiterated the paramount importance of prioritizing mental health support, particularly in the midst of ongoing conflicts. He affirmed the IDFโ€™s unwavering dedication to expanding and improving mental health services, citing the opening of the new center as a significant step forward in this endeavor.

Glazberg emphasized the centerโ€™s potential to serve as a beacon of hope for IDF officers grappling with the psychological toll of military service.

In response to the pressing need for mental health resources, the IDF has intensified its efforts to address the psychological well-being of its servicemen and women. Recognizing the multifaceted challenges posed by modern warfare, the establishment of the mental health center signals a proactive approach to mitigating the long-term effects of combat-related trauma.

The IDFโ€™s investment in mental health infrastructure underscores its commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its personnel, both on the battlefield and beyond. By providing accessible and high-quality mental health care, the new center aims to equip soldiers with the resources they need to navigate the psychological challenges inherent in military service.

As the IDF continues to adapt to evolving threats and operational demands, its steadfast focus on mental health underscores the organizationโ€™s recognition of the integral role that psychological well-being plays in ensuring mission readiness and resilience among its ranks.
