You Don’t Need A Reason For Leaving A Relationship

You don’t need a reason for leaving a relationship.
You don’t have to wait until things get bad or your partner does something awful to warrant ending it.
Wanting to leave is reason enough.
Being unhappy or unfulfilled and disconnected is reason enough.
Even if they’re smart and kind and successful.
Even if they’re supportive and caring and have a huge heart.
Even if you have a long history or they haven’t done anything wrong.
You’re not obligated to stay in any relationship that you don’t want to be in.
You don’t owe it to anyone to maintain something that doesn’t feel right.
Wanting to leave doesn’t make you a bad person and breaking someone’s heart doesn’t make you terrible.
It makes you brave. It’s brave to honor your needs,
and it’s even more brave to give your partner the chance
to be with someone who can love them in all the ways they deserve.
Trust your gut. Trust that if something feels off or empty or unfulfilling
that you deserve to make a shift and let go.
You aren’t defective or incapable of love, and you aren’t destined to be alone.
You’re human. You tried your best, and it didn’t work out — and it’s okay.
Your partner will be okay.
Maybe not today or tomorrow or six months from now,
but they’ll survive the storm.
And you will too. You’re allowed to put yourself first.
There are a lot of things in life we have to settle on,
but your heart and happiness doesn’t have to be one of them.
You get to choose. You get to leave if it doesn’t feel right
