WHAT ARE TAROT CARDS?

First, let us define what tarot cards are. Simply put, tarot cards are cards that have printed symbols or pictures on them. Tarot cards are one of the most popular tools of divination.  Tarot cards are used to clarify the person’s life whether in the past or future. Each tarot card has a specific meaning and is meant to tell a story about a person’s life.

WHAT DOES YOUR DECK CONTAIN?

If you want to buy a tarot deck, then you must know what it contains. A traditional tarot deck has 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana making a total of 78 cards. Let us start with the Minor Arcana.

Like regular playing cards, the Minor Arcana has four different suits namely the Suit of Cups, the Suit of Pentacles, the Suit of Swords and the Suit of Wands. Every suit of the Minor Arcana has numbered cards from one to ten, and four court cards namely the Page, Knight, Queen, and King. Of course, each suit has different kinds of representations and meanings that may help you with your life.

On the other hand, unlike the Minor Arcana, the Major Arcana does not have any associated suit, but it has different symbols that are on each card. The Major Arcana has 21 numbered cards and one unnumbered card that is called the Fool. Like the Minor Arcana, each symbol has different representations. True to its name, the Major Arcana represents the major events and instances, and serves as a sign that something big will happen in your life.

While it may seem complicated to read and interpret these cards, each deck contains a small pamphlet or guide. The guide can help you with the interpretation of the different cards, and it will help you on how to set the cards.

THE GUIDE TO READING TAROT CARDS

Now that you have a general idea of tarot cards, you have to note that reading tarot cards requires a lot of reading, patience, and understanding. If you are going to use tarot cards for yourself, then you have to be honest with each interpretation that will come.

  1. CHOOSING A DECK

You may have heard of a saying that you should not be the one to buy yourself a deck. If you have, then this saying is completely false. You are free to buy your own when you want to. While browsing for tarot cards, choose the one that piques your interest.  Study the images and colors of the cards, and see which one appeals to you the most. If you are just a beginner, then choose a deck that is simple and can give you the most information.

  1. BROWSE THROUGH THE IMAGES

Like paintings, you can personally interpret your cards. Before you read the meaning from the book, spend time giving your interpretations about the images. What does the image represent? What is your first impression? Do you feel a kind of connection? By doing this, you can spend time with each card, and it can make it easier for you to interpret these cards in the future.

  1. READ ONE TAROT CARD DAILY

One way to make it easier for you is to do a daily reading of your tarot cards. You do not have to read all of your cards every day, but you can pick one card and read it daily.

  1. LEARNING A TAROT SPREAD

Many websites and books will suggest doing the Celtic Cross Spread. However, doing the Celtic Cross Spread can be difficult and complicated.  An alternative would be the Three-Card Spread. The Three-Card Spread is popular among beginners, or those who want to do a quick reading.

  1. READ, READ, READ

It is difficult to understand a subject without the right kind of knowledge. Continue to learn more about the tarot cards using the book that goes with the deck. Study its meaning, and learn to apply it on your life.

  1. DO NOT JUST MEMORIZE

It is useless to memorize your tarot cards if you do not understand the essence of your cards. Do not pressure yourself in memorizing your tarot cards. Otherwise, you will lose its meaning.

  1. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE COMPLICATED

As a beginner, you have to keep it simple and smart. Reading tarot cards can become complicated, which can make you lose interest. Start with simple spreads and techniques to help you learn more about tarot cards.
