Social Media Influencer Faces Backlash for for Swimming In A Deadly Forbidden Cove

Spanish social media influencer Marina Rivera Saldaรฑa, widely recognized as Marina Rivers online, faced severe backlash from the online community for her recent escapade in a forbidden cove, raising concerns about influencers prioritizing social media fame over personal safety.

Social Media Influencerโ€™s Swim Sparks Outrage and Safety Concerns

On August 31, Marina Rivers, who boasts a massive following of over 9.5 million on her Instagram, X, and TikTok accounts, decided to take a daring plunge into the enchanting Sapphire waters of El Tancรณn cave in Santiago del Teide, Tenerife, part of the Canary Islands.

While the visuals appeared captivating on camera, the cove had been strictly off-limits to tourists due to the inherent danger posed by its โ€œbufadero,โ€ a natural chimney-like formation characterized by unpredictable currents, rendering it challenging for rescue teams to access.

Tragically, this location had already claimed the lives of six individuals, including Jasmine Ben Ali, a 33-year-old Swiss native, and Giovanni Rodrรญguez, a 27-year-old from Italy, both of whom had drowned in the perilous pool.

Not surprisingly, Marina Rivers faced swift and severe criticism from the online community, with many accusing her of both disrespecting the deceased and recklessly endangering herself for the sake of social media acclaim. Outraged viewers took to Instagram and other platforms to express their displeasure.

One user pointedly remarked, โ€œI think itโ€™s disrespectful that youโ€™re bathing in a place that is FORBIDDEN.โ€ Another critic emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, โ€œThat place is a death trap for those who dare to bathe.

Such a dangerous place should not be advertised.โ€ A third comment echoed the sentiments of the local community: โ€œBathing is forbidden there. We are sick of tourists that donโ€™t respect our land.โ€

Notably, X took a responsible stance by appending a Community Notes advisory to Marina Riversโ€™ post. They expressed concern that her photos might โ€œencourage people to go to the place and bathe, a danger since several people have died in the place in recent years.โ€

In conclusion, Marina Riversโ€™ ill-advised swim in the forbidden cove has ignited a debate about the ethics of social media influencers and their pursuit of likes and followers at the expense of personal safety.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when individuals prioritize online notoriety over respect for rules and safety regulations.
