Youth Mental Health Grants Aim to Strengthen Community Support in 10 States

As we move toward 2026, youth mental health grants have become an increasingly important tool for helping young people and families. Recently, The Cigna Group Foundation has launched its 2026 Improving Youth Mental Health grant program, committing millions of dollars in order to expand youth mental health grants for community organizations across the country.

The youth mental health grants provided by the Cigna Group Foundation will fund programs in at least ten priority states (Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas), with a primary focus on social-emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and strong family-school partnerships. The intent of these grants is to assist organizations that already have a good understanding of their communities in scaling up successful programs that benefit young people (e.g., mentoring programs, culturally appropriate counseling, school-based prevention work).

At the Foundation, leadership stresses that the grants for youth mental health were created with an “urgent and compassionate” response to today’s youth who are under an extraordinary amount of stress, loneliness, and pressure. Community grants designed specifically for youth mental health differ from using a “one size fits all” approach, and instead, develop models of youth mental health care based on the strengths of each community and the lived experience of youth in that community.

Youth mental health grant funding could enhance access to after-school programming/resources, offer parent workshops to help families communicate and cope, and create safe spaces for youth to share their concerns about feeling anxious, having low self-esteem, or having suicidal thoughts. Across the country, many non-profit organizations are currently creating proposals for youth mental health grants that will enable them to continue supporting youth with resources that match their communities, and to serve an increasing number of youth.
