Anxiety Treatment Innovations Offer Fresh Hope After Decades of Stagnation

Anxiety treatments in the U.S. could dramatically change soon, as there have been no new anxiety disorder-related medication approvals for 20 years. There have only been two options for those needing anxiety treatment: benzodiazepines, which provide quick relief, but are potentially dangerous, or antidepressants, which take weeks to work. New research has created exciting possibilities for anxiety treatment.

Several articles have been published on the promise of psychedelic treatments through the use of medications and assisted therapy. Patients with generalized anxiety disorder have shown great promise after taking a single dose of MM120. Many patients reported help for weeks following that single dose. This ultimately represents the possibility for the U.S. to offer the first new class of anxiety disorder treatment in almost 20 years. Some early studies have shown similar results with the use of psilocybin-assisted therapy, especially when accompanied by a qualified psychologist.

In addition to psychedelic treatments, several additional options are being researched, including non-psychedelic BNC210, to help treat social anxiety disorder with quicker-discomfort reduction, without the risk of sedation and addiction, associated with major classes of mental health medications. Researchers are also working on molecule development, including the development of experimental molecules that target specific serotonin receptor sites or enhance neuroplasticity.

Digital tools (such as smartphone apps or artificial intelligence) will be incorporated into the treatment of anxiety, from app-based guided exposure to AI-support for monitoring patients. For patients, this may provide a more individualized approach to treatment (medication, therapy and technology) in a way that does not disrupt their day-to-day life or take into account their own past experiences and current situation with ANXIETY.

However, according to the experts, simply having innovation is not sufficient enough for all patients, equitable access to new treatment options will primarily determine whether a patient can access a new anxiety treatment breakthrough or whether they will only have access to their traditional treatment options. Therefore, after years of being stagnant and feeling like the same old PATIENTS are receiving all the benefits of innovative treatments, many people living with ANXIETY are now feeling that there is much more HOPE for the future than there has been.
