The Oscar winners 2023 announcement is here! The 95th Academy Awards are finally over, and the winners have truly made me smile from ear to ear. All through the ceremony I was whooping and cheering because, after a long time, I genuinely enjoyed the show.
I watched the Oscars live after 3 years, and the way everything unfolded and the people who won, had me beaming the whole time. With “Everything, Everywhere All At Once” sweeping the Oscars, needless to say, I was a happy girl watching my favorite movie of 2022 win big this year.
Now, without any delay, let’s get down to knowing who won what and who is riding into the sunset with the highest honors of the night!
So, who got the Oscar awards in 2023? Here is the full list of Oscar 2023 winners.

Oscar Winners 2023 Full List
1. Best Picture – “Everything Everywhere All at Once” – Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, and Jonathan Wang (Producers)
I legit clapped and whooped when this happened! Now, I was kind of expecting this but what I was not expecting was how happy I would actually feel. An absurdist comedy-drama film winning the Oscar for Best Picture was not on anyone’s radar when this movie was released last year.
The film revolves around a woman named Mei (Michelle Yeoh), who discovers that she has the ability to travel through different dimensions and timelines. With this newfound power, she sets out on a mission to save the multiverse from a cosmic threat.
Throughout her journey, Mei encounters different versions of herself in parallel universes, including a scientist (Stephanie Hsu) who is working on a device that could destroy the multiverse, and a version of herself who is a ruthless killer (also played by Michelle Yeoh).
The movie beautifully combines elements of science fiction, action, and comedy, and explores themes such as the nature of identity, free will, and the consequences of our choices. And also, let us not forget it’s imaginative storytelling and stunning visual effects.
This movie more than deserved the award for Best Picture and nobody can tell me otherwise!

2. Best Lead Actress – Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”)
Just like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee were our favorite childhood action heroes, there was one woman who I loved equally but never saw anyone talk about as much. I am talking about Michelle Yeoh.
Michelle Yeoh has always been one of my favorite actresses and action stars, and to see her win the Best Actress Oscar (finally!) at the age of 60 felt like a personal win. When I say the rent was due, I mean it was way overdue! Also, she is the first Asian Lead Actress Winner, y’all!
Her wise words “Ladies, don’t let anyone tell you you are ever past your prime.” was one of the biggest highlights of the evening. She did not just win the Golden Statuette, she won everyone’s hearts and showed that it’s never too late to shine.
Other Best Actress Nominations:

3. Best Lead Actor – Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”)
Again, this one too felt like a massive personal win. Brendan Fraser defined my childhood with his movies. Knowing all that he went through in his life, making a comeback, and then winning the Oscar for Best Lead Actor is enough to make anyone feel inspired.
Dealing with his mother’s death, going through a rough divorce battle, suffering numerous injuries from performing stunts, and being blacklisted from Hollywood for exposing the man who sexually assaulted him took a toll on him.
But he is back and how! He plays Charlie, a 600-pound morbidly obese man and a reclusive teacher who is confined to his apartment because of his weight. He is trying to reconcile with his estranged teenage daughter and trying to reclaim his life back.
Just like Michelle Yeoh, he proved that it’s never too late to shine, as he won his first Academy Award at the age of 54. Brendan Fraser and his story have inspired an entire generation, and when he was up on that stage giving his speech, I had tears in my eyes. Hope to see more of his movies in the years to come!
Other Best Actor Nominations:
- Austin Butler (“Elvis”)
- Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”)
- Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”)
- Bill Nighy (“Living”)
4. Best Director – Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”)
This one was expected to be honest, and not just by me, but by everyone I think. Everything Everywhere All at Once was probably the most talked-about movie of 2022, and social media showered love and positive reviews not just on the movie, but on the director duo as well.
Collectively known as “Daniels”, they beautifully fused surreal comedy, animation, fantasy, science fiction, and martial arts films in the movie and gave us an outstanding specimen of vision and direction.
They were appreciated for their originality and for amazingly portraying philosophical concepts like absurdism, nihilism, and existentialism as well as sensitively handling themes like Asian-American identity, depression, neurodivergence, and generational trauma.
To say that this win is well-deserved will be an understatement!
