Read and digest this article with an open mind and feel free to come back if you ever feel lost. TODAY is the first day of the rest of your life. Weโ€™re going to take this one day at a time. The world is yours for the taking as soon as you come out of your misery.

Here are ways on How To Get Your Life Back On Track When You Feel Broken:

1. Give up pretending that you have to be who you used to be.

Our worst battle is often between what we remember from the past and what we presently feel in the moment.  Because of this ongoing battle in your mind, one of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make is when to stay put and struggle harder or when to take your memories and move on.  There comes a point in life where you have to step outside of the person youโ€™ve been and remember to become the person you were meant to be, the person you are capable of being, and the person you truly are today. No more pretending.

2. Give up berating yourself for everything you arenโ€™t.

Never forget that being kind to yourself in thoughts, words and actions is as important as being kind to others. In fact, itโ€™s harder to be kind to others if you arenโ€™t kind to yourself in the first place. Extend yourself this courtesy.  Love your real self.  Identify and overcome your fears, little by little everyday. Donโ€™t rush it. Embrace your insecurities and learn how to laugh at yourself. The best comedians in the world have used this skill to make a living. Understand your emotions and express them in an appropriate manner in a suitable environment.

Instead of hurting yourself by hiding from your problems, help yourself grow beyond them.  This is the foundation of self-care.  Loving yourself includes facing the inner issues that make you believe that you are less than you are.  Itโ€™s learning to see that you are already beautiful.  Not because youโ€™re blind to your shortcomings, but because you know they have to be there to balance out your strengths.  Allow your strengths to give you that boost you need to reduce your weaknesses.

3. Give up regretting and holding onto what happened in the past.

When you are stubborn and stay stuck in regret of the life you think you should have had, you end up missing out on the beauty of what you do have.  Not all the puzzle pieces of life will seem to fit together at first, but in time, youโ€™ll gradually realize that they do โ€“ perfectly.  So thank the universe for the things that didnโ€™t work out, because they just made room for the things that will.  Be grateful for the ones who walked away from you, because they just made room for the ones who wonโ€™t.  Every new beginning comes from another beginningโ€™s end.

4. Give up getting caught up in the negativity surrounding you.

To be positive in negative times is not just foolish and delusional optimism.  It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of tragedy, but also of success, sacrifice, courage, kindness, and growth.  What we decide to emphasize in this complex history will determine how well we live our lives.  If we look only for the worst, it destroys our capacity and prevents us from doing our best work.  If we remember those times and places โ€“ and there are many โ€“ in which people have behaved extraordinarily, and things have gone well, this gives us the inspirational energy to act and at least the possibility of changing the world we live in.  And if we do act, in however small a way, we donโ€™t have to sit around and wait for some perfect future.  The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live right now as we believe we should live, in defiance of all the negativity around us, is in itself an amazing victory.

5. Give up thinking that everyone else has it so much easier than you.

When the going gets tough, remember this simple truth : Nothing thatโ€™s worthwhile is ever easy.  And when youโ€™re struggling with something thatโ€™s important to you, and you feel like your life isnโ€™t fair, look at all the people around you and realize that every single person you see is struggling with something, and to them, itโ€™s just as hard as what youโ€™re going through. Youโ€™ll never understand a persons true struggles unless you walk in their shoes. So why compare your struggles with theirs?

6. Give up wanting to be where others are in life.

You need to let go of comparing where youโ€™re at in life with where everybody else is.  It doesnโ€™t move you farther ahead, improve your situation, or help you find happiness.  It just fuels feelings of inadequacy and shame, and ultimately holds you back from where you should be.  The truth is, there is no one correct path in life.  A path thatโ€™s right for someone else wonโ€™t necessarily be a path thatโ€™s right for you.  Trust me, if we were all to follow the same path there would be no fun in that.  Your journey isnโ€™t right or wrong, or good or bad โ€“ itโ€™s just different.

Your life isnโ€™t meant to look exactly like anyone elseโ€™s because you arenโ€™t exactly like anyone else โ€“ itโ€™s that clear cut.  You are an individual with a unique set of goals, obstacles, dreams, and needs.  So stop comparing and start living.  You may not always end up where you intend to go, but you will eventually arrive exactly where you need to be.  Believe that you are in the right place at the right time, right now.

7. Give up letting the judgments of strangers control you.

People know your name and not everyone that knows your name will know your story.  Theyโ€™ve heard of what youโ€™ve done, but donโ€™t understand what youโ€™ve been through.  So take their opinions of you with a grain of salt.  In the end, itโ€™s not what others think, itโ€™s what you think about yourself that counts.  Sometimes you have to do exactly whatโ€™s right for you and your life, without giving a damn what your life looks like to everyone who doesnโ€™t even know you. Never let the opinions and remarks of other people get to your head.

8. Give up letting toxic relationships bring you down on a daily basis.

Not all toxic relationships are agonizing and inconsiderate on purpose.  Some of them involve people who care about you โ€“ people who have good intentions but are toxic because of their needs and way of existing in the world force you to compromise yourself and your happiness.  They arenโ€™t inherently bad people, but they arenโ€™t the right people to be spending your valuable time with every day.  And as hard as it is, we have to distance ourselves enough to give ourselves space to live with the right head space.  You simply canโ€™t ruin yourself on a daily basis for the sake of someone else who doesnโ€™t understand whatโ€™s best for you.  You have to make your well-being an important priority.  Whether that means breaking up with someone, loving a family member from a distance, letting go of a friend, or removing yourself from a situation that feels painful โ€“ you have every right to leave and create some healthy space for yourself.  You owe it to yourself.

9. Give up over-thinking and worrying about everything.

When your fears and anxieties have you looking too deep into things, it creates more problems instead of fixing the initial problems.  If you think and you think and you think, you will think yourself right out of happiness a thousand times over, and never once into it.  Worrying doesnโ€™t take away tomorrowโ€™s troubles, it takes away todayโ€™s peace and potential.  And life is too short for that. Never let your thoughts get the best of you.

10. Give up believing you arenโ€™t strong enough to take another step forward.

Itโ€™s always possible to go on, no matter how impossible it seems.  In time, the grief may not go away completely, but after awhile itโ€™s not so overwhelming.  So breathe deeply and tell yourself that everything is going to be okay. Itโ€™s only a matter of time. Remember that youโ€™ve been in this place before.  Youโ€™ve been this uncomfortable and restless and afraid, and youโ€™ve survived.  Take another deep breath and know that you can survive this time too.  These feelings wonโ€™t break you.  Theyโ€™re painful and draining, but you can sit with them and eventually, they will pass.  Maybe not immediately, but sometime soon theyโ€™re going to fade, and when they do youโ€™ll look back at this moment and laugh for having doubted your resilience.

The first and worst place we lose our footing is in our own heads.  If you think itโ€™s permanent, then itโ€™s permanent.  If you think youโ€™re broken, then you are.  If you think youโ€™ve reached your limits, then you have.  If you think youโ€™ll never heal and grow, then you wonโ€™t.  You have to change your mind.  You need to see everything thatโ€™s holding you back, every obstacle, and every limitation as only temporary.

Because thatโ€™s the truth.

Now ask yourself,

What are you holding on to right now thatโ€™s holding you back?

Is there something you need to let go of, or give up, before you can move forward again?
