Why You Should Think Twice Before Cracking Your Neck: A Doctor’s Warning

Cracking your neck may feel satisfying, but some doctors warn against it for alarming reasons. Let’s discover why!

Chiropractic Horror: The Scary Side of Cracking Your Neck

In a chilling revelation that has sent shockwaves through social media, Dr. Ever Arias, a physician with a substantial following on TikTok, shared a bone-chilling story emphasizing the alarming reasons why one should never attempt to crack their own neck.

With over 235,000 views, his video titled “Never Going to a Chiropractor Again” serves as a cautionary tale.

Dr. Arias recounted the disturbing incident of a 20-year-old woman who walked into the emergency room after attempting to crack her neck. After the second attempt, she heard a concerning snap and experienced excruciating pain.

To the shock of medical professionals, she was diagnosed with a “cervical compression fracture,” a condition typically associated with osteoporosis but, in her case, attributed to “hypermobility syndrome,” a condition that rendered her joints unusually flexible. Tragically, the simple act of neck cracking had resulted in a broken neck.

The risks associated with neck cracking don’t stop at fractures; Dr. Arias also highlighted cases of patients who suffered strokes due to spinal manipulations performed by chiropractors.

These strokes were a result of vertebral artery dissection, where the arteries along the spine ruptured. Disturbingly, the video suggested that similar symptoms could arise from DIY neck cracking.

In a stark warning, Dr. Arias urged viewers to reconsider ever attempting to crack their necks. He emphasized the importance of being informed about the potential dangers associated with this seemingly harmless habit.

This cautionary tale is not an isolated incident. In March, an Australian man experienced a stroke after attempting to alleviate chronic back pain by cracking his neck.

Furthermore, last year, a Georgia woman found herself paralyzed following a routine neck adjustment that led to ruptured spinal arteries.

Dr. Arias’s message serves as a stark reminder that while the urge to crack one’s neck for momentary relief might be tempting, the consequences can be far more severe than anyone could ever imagine.

The spine, a delicate and complex structure, should not be trifled with, and seeking professional guidance before attempting any manipulations is crucial for one’s safety and well-being.
