Candace Cameron Bure, best known for her role in โFuller House,โ has recently revealed her ongoing battle with depression, shedding light on the stigma and loneliness that often accompany mental health challenges.
In a heartfelt podcast conversation with author Jennie Allen, the 47-year-old actress spoke tearfully about the difficulty of speaking out about her struggles, despite their prevalence in her life.
Candace Cameron Bure Calls for Support
โDepression is such a lonely place and itโs very difficult to speak out about it, even to your most trusted people,โ Bure expressed emotionally. โItโs hard to admit it, at least for me, I feel like because I should be strong enough to overcome that and then it just feels weak.โ
The actress shared her internal struggle with the perception of weakness associated with depression, a sentiment echoed by many who battle mental health issues. Bure highlighted the immediate shame that often follows, exacerbated by societal notions of strength and weakness.
โI can try with all of my might to get out of this and I canโt pull myself out of the pit. I canโt pull myself out by myself,โ Bure confessed. โBut itโs hard to extend the arm and go, โHelp me.โโ
Taking to Instagram, Bure encouraged those facing similar challenges, emphasizing the importance of seeking support and citing Psalm 34:17-18 for solace. Her openness about mental health struggles is not new, as she had previously discussed the importance of maintaining clear mental health amidst her busy schedule.
In recent years, Bure has faced criticism for her conservative views, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ rights, following her transition from the Hallmark Channel to the Great American Family Network. Despite the backlash, she has remained steadfast in her beliefs, advocating for traditional marriage and defending her values.
Responding to criticism in 2022, Bure addressed misconceptions about her intentions, expressing her love and affection for all people while standing by her convictions. She lamented the divisive nature of media portrayal, particularly regarding her involvement in Christmas movies, amidst societal tensions.
Amidst personal and professional challenges, Bureโs vulnerability in discussing her mental health struggles serves as a reminder of the importance of destigmatizing conversations surrounding mental wellness. Her call for support resonates with many who silently grapple with similar issues, offering hope and solidarity in times of struggle.
