Confession by convicted murderer Raul Meza Jr, shakes Austin: revealing the truth behind mysterious death of Gloria Lofton, in 2019. It wasn’t her drinking problem after all!

On Wednesday, May 24, authorities in Austin Texas revealed that convicted murderer Raul Meza Jr, had confessed to multiple killings, including Gloria Lofton’s unsolved murder case.

Sonia Houston was uncertain about the cause of her mother’s death four years ago. Initially, she thought her mom’s drinking may have killed her.

Unsolved Murder Case: Death Of Gloria Lofton Or Mishandling Of The Austin Police Department?

Gloria Lofton was found dead in 2019. Her daughter expressed her frustration with the authorities for handling the investigation, stating that they failed to investigate her mother’s death properly. She believed her mother would have remained unknown if Meza had not confessed.

Meza, who was the subject of a manhunt for the killing of his 80-year-old roommate, contacted the authorities himself and admitted to the crimes. He confessed during a call to a city hotline, which was subsequently transferred to a homicide detective.

Houston’s anger towards the authorities stemmed from what she perceived as a lack of follow-up on her mother’s case. She mentioned finding a used condom in her mother’s kitchen, which she believed could have been crucial evidence. Although, it appeared to have been overlooked.

The affidavit revealed that authorities accused Meza of sexually assaulting and strangling Lofton. The accusation was supported by a DNA match between Meza and a swab taken from Lofton’s body in 2020.

However, the Travis County Medical Examiner initially listed Lofton’s cause and manner of death as “undetermined.”

Houston’s older sister, Christina Fultz, voiced her frustration, suggesting that the investigation would have been more efficient if Lofton had been white and living on a different side of Austin. She believed the case would have been solved within a week under those circumstances.

The Austin Police Department spokesperson mentioned that Chief Joseph Chacon was reviewing the case for potential investigative lapses, while the Travis County spokesman cited an ongoing investigation for the Medical Examiner’s initial conclusion.

The motive behind Meza’s killing of Lofton remains unclear. Meza asserted that he was enticed by the promise of receiving a share of the money that Lofton’s nephew was supposed to inherit.

However, Houston clarified that her mother did not have any nephews, casting doubt on Meza’s claims. Furthermore, it remains uncertain whether Lofton was acquainted with Meza prior to her tragic demise.

Describing her relationship with Lofton as complicated, Houston acknowledged her mother’s intelligence and the positive influences she had on her life. However, Lofton had experienced abuse and struggled with unresolved issues, which Houston believed intensified as she grew older.

Houston last saw her mother on May 8, 2019, when Lofton asked her to buy cigarettes and beer. The following day, Houston returned home to find police officers who informed her of her mother’s death. Authorities found Lofton in her bedroom, partially undressed with her shirts pulled above her head.

Houston and Fultz visited their mother’s house, where they were met with a distressing scene. The house appeared ransacked, and they discovered blood stains and a condom in the kitchen. The sisters felt that the authorities were insensitive and failed to provide any guidance or information.

Houston had initially considered her mother’s drinking as a potential cause of death, speculating about accidents that might occur while intoxicated. She was puzzled by the inconclusive autopsy findings but focused on laying her mother to rest and settling her affairs.

Now, Houston seeks justice for her mother and questions the competency of the authorities in handling the case. She believes that they did not handle it to the best of their abilities. Houston also acknowledges the role of karma in the situation.
