It is almost everywhere acknowledged that people who pursue careers in science and technology are the really intelligent ones while the ones who take up humanities bear the mark of being second grade. But, people who love writing are smarter than others.
What everyone might not know is that writing helps in improving oneโs intelligence.
โLock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.โ

1. Writers learn quicker
ย โRead, read, read. Read everything โ trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! Youโll absorb it.
Then write. If itโs good, youโll find out. If itโs not, throw it out of the window.โ
โย William Faulkner
In a study of two groups of students where one took notes in the classroom through longhand and the other did the same in their laptops, it was found out that the ones who took handwritten notes retained the information more.
It was also found that they engaged more critically with the information.
By writing longhand they knew that they wonโt be able to note down everything and therefore they had to filter the relevant information from the very first moment.
While in case of the ones taking notes on laptops it was more like taking dictation: they were more concerned with noting down all information rather than being focused on the content.

โWe write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.โ
โย Anaรฏs Nin
It takes a lot of skill in a writer to write exactly what he/she wants to express. It often happens with people that they end up writing something that they never meant to in the first place.
For this, they need to sort and organize their ideas first. Such continuous processing of information makes them able to think clearly in critical situations.

โย Sylvia Plath
In a study in which three groups of unemployed engineers took part, it was found out that those who had to write about their condition regarding their current state of joblessness were twice as likely to find a job eight months after the study (53% versus 24%).
From this, it can be concluded that writing lets a person think of their current problems in a more rational and organized manner. And this helps them in solving their issues more efficiently.

โNo tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.โ
โย Robert Frost
Emotional intelligence is now seen as a more accurate measure of a personโs overall intelligence rather than IQ.
Writers score high on the EQ scale as writing gives them the ability to be perceptive towards not only their own emotions but that of others as well.
Moreover, writers are used to continual self-analysis. This gives them a better understanding of their own emotions.
There are numerous studies which prove that people who love writing regularly are smarter than others.
