Warrior Training 1: The Martial Arts Mindset

This is the elixir I come to take with each lesson I attend and when I practice in my own time.

Another potion I take with each class is action! The great antidote to fear!

But none of these outcomes even matter without this one mindset shift which my kung fu practice has instilled in me. It is the attitude and practice of SHOWING UP.

To show up for yourself and take action is the warrior’s way. Show up to your practice. Show up in your self-doubt and fear. Show up in your guilt and shame. Show up with your pain and grief. Showing up means working with your inner feminine landscape. If you’re not showing up you’re disconnected with her, with the emotional body, your innate source of power.

I’ve quoted it before and I’ll repeat it a hundred times over, ‘Don’t think, feel!’ The martial artist, the embodiment of the warrior archetype, doesn’t operate solely through logic and mind, she feels, she intuits, she moves with the tide of strength against her, like a river. ‘We need emotional content,’ Bruce Lee says in Enter the Dragon.

Why I look up to heroes and sheros like Bruce Lee and Cynthia Rothrock is because they showed up for themselves in their professional and off-screen life. Their enthusiasm for their art is like a catching fire that never goes out.

Are you seeking to live a more authentic life? A life you’ve imagined in your dreams? If you’re not yet in alignment with your vision and purpose, where are you not showing up for yourself?

The warrior doesn’t make excuses. She makes a plan. She practices. She rests. She transforms. She heals. She finds a balance between movement and stillness. She never gives up against a tough opponent. She just fights smarter.

Wherever you feel stuck, wherever there are obstacles, be present to them. Begin by showing up!
