Maybe growing up is just focusing on what you’ve got

“I wonder if, as you get older, you stop missing people so fiercely. Maybe growing up is just focusing on what you’ve got, instead of what you don’t.”

— Jodi Picoult

Remember being told by your parents – not to cry, when you did’t get something.

Maybe growing up is all about realizing this

  1. This is something you can't just figure out and it will be clear for all concerned. The only way you can experience what it will be like when you're older, is to grow older. Even if an older person explains it to you. It's their experience, not yours. For me, I'm 60 years of age and my experience tells me, no you do not stop missing with ferocity. You can focus all you want on what you have, I call it being grateful. That doesn't take away your loss. Not only are there family and friends who pass away, but the activities and such that you used to do fade away as well.
